Can someone explain to me how they understood the movie? Just so I can compare it with my understanding.
My understanding was Christian Bale's character did the dissappearing man with his twin brother (which they also shared the same woman) and was also his associate with the beard. Hugh Jackman's character did it with a look-a-like, and then with Tesla's machine which would create doubles. Every night after a show his double would fall into the water tank and be locked (which is why Bale's character was on trial because they thought he did it when he was trying to save him). Jackman's character would then store the dead doubles in the warehouse at the end where he died and continue on using another double that the machine created. That was my understanding of it.

I also thought that the reason he didn't remember what knot he tied, was because him and his brother switched places? But I'm not too sure about that.
Yea, that's what I got from it too. EDIT: No, I'm absolutely certain that he had a twin. But, I think he first appeared after Bale's character went his separate way (after the rope tying incident). He kept alluding to it the entire time, by saying how he had the greatest trick planned, so I figured he kept his twin hidden, all part of his final trick. As for the rope-tying incident, I just figured it was a case of him messing around. Michael Caine's character kept getting on him for being too arrogant, but he didn't really listen.
I am certain he has a twin, they showed many times when they were in the same room together. When he cut his fingers off. One was in jail as well. all that stuff.
Tell your friend to watch the movie again, that's the easiest thing to understand. He's got a twin, that's had he made his trick work. God, I absolutely love this movie.
