<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">On Thursday, Timberwolves vice president of basketball operations Kevin McHale said he didn't want to trade Kevin Garnett. On Friday in New York, where NBA owners met, Wolves owner Glen Taylor, on the same subject, said this: "You never say never," he told Bloomberg News. "I wouldn't close the door on it."

This figures to be the first of many times over the coming weeks and months for speculation over whether the team will trade Garnett, who has been a franchise cornerstone since being drafted in 1995. But just because Taylor wouldn't utter an absolute doesn't mean Garnett's on the block. "Never say never" is a long way from, "Here's my number, give us a call."

Garnett has two years remaining on his contract, though he can opt out of that contract after next season. Fact is, he'd be likely to have to either go to a team well under the cap -- which means well under the playoff radar -- or take a pay cut to play for a contender. This was a point Taylor appeared to make in New York.

"You think he's going to play for Charlotte?" Taylor asked.

But all of that appears to be moot, at least for now. The Wolves are committed to changes in their roster but want to have another go at doing it around Garnett rather than without him.

Taylor was asked by Bloomberg what the Wolves would do if they were struggling at the trade deadline next season. "KG and I would discuss it if we got to that point," he said. "We'll address it when it needs to be addressed."</div>

They definatley need to keep him, they just need to give him the right pieces to work with, otherwise they should'nt be surprised if he eventually requests a trade. They need to be smart in this years draft, and make some much needed deals.

I am not surprised that McHale is holding on snugg to KG. KG is THE asset to that franchise, and losing him is a blow.

However, if KG wants to go, he will find a way out of Minnesota into another state, and onto another team.

I dont think thats entirely true, they have a few pieces to play around with, Ricky D, Randy Foye, Graig Smith, Rashad McCants, Mike James etc. Not to mention draft picks, cash and expiring contracts.

But what can you get for any of those small players? not anything that can bring a championship run. Maybe they can luck up in the draft but there is nt anyone in the draftthats gonna bring a chip. This team has no starters or bench.
    this team has
    1 allstar
    1 okay guard
    3 backup guards
    Everyone else are 12th men
    Minny is a nba garbagedump.

They made a mistake in not keeping Roy. KG and Roy wouldve been a nice start

they were favorites to win if they wouldve resigned spree and sam. they had a 3 year window with the trio of KG sam and Spree.

If he can tough it out the next 2 seasons then sign for cheap so Minnesota can pickup some good players. Or bail out to a contender(pistons)

I can already hear the LA board "ok so we trade Luke and Bynum, and maybe a 2nd rd pk or an expiring contract, and then get KG!"

Im still a little shaky in trading Bynum, but if it for KG, i would agree. Kobe's prime is getting misused. BRING KG TO LA!!

lol, I don't get the big hesitation in trading Bynum. If KG were to come to LA (very unlikely for the time being), and the Lakers started winning, Lakers fans wouldn't give two shits about Bynum being in 'Sota.

I think you're underestimating this team, sure its far from great, but it has a couple of solid role players (James and Davis) and some young up and coming talent that are (or were) regarded quite highly (McCants, Foye, Smith). Thats not even mentioning Trenton Hassell, Troy Hudson and Marko Jaric have all been involved in trade rumours over the past season aswell, so there is interest there. They have alot more to work with than you think.

You're right, they should've kept Roy, but they didnt, Foye had a pretty good Rookie year (taking into account how good the top rookies actually played)

They really don't have much. Aside from their young prospects, Trenton Hassell's really the only player who'd garner interest from other teams, and his value is limited. Mike James, Marko Jaric, and Troy Hudson have big contracts that they don't deserve and Ricky Davis is a well-documented headcase.

What Minnesota needs to do is package their young players with those unwanted players and rebuild the team. The only problem is, if they start that process, they most likely won't contend during the rest of Garnett's contract: which is why they probably should trade him.
