<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">TORONTO (AP)-- The Raptors understand adversity all too well.

They started the season 2-8 and survived. They lost forward Chris Bosh to a knee injury and survived.

So they see no cause for alarm after losing Game 1 of their playoff series with the New Jersey Nets.

"When we take a step back we always take two or three steps forward," Bosh said Monday, leading to Game 2 Tuesday night. "We pick up our intensity in the next game, we don't make the same mistakes we did before. We're a fast-learning team, and in Game 2 we're going to need that."

The players credit their resolve to Sam Mitchell, who will learn Tuesday whether he's been honored as NBA coach of the year. Utah's Jerry Sloan and Dallas' Avery Johnson also are in the running.

"He's done a great job with the ball club," forward Morris Peterson said. "He's really grown a lot over his first couple of years coaching. If anybody in the NBA deserves it, it's him. He's proved a lot of people wrong."

Like Bosh, Peterson said Mitchell's leadership has helped Toronto become a team that can bounce back.

"Our coaching staff has done a great job this year in making adjustments after we've had tough losses," Peterson said. "One of the biggest things is that we've been ready to play after a loss."

Guard T.J. Ford said Mitchell puts his faith in the players.

"He's going to give us the structure offensively and defensively, but it's up to us to go out there execute," he said. "He puts it in our hands and lets us control it. He's been great in that aspect."

Lets hope we wear red this game or Jersey doesnt wear their alternates. That was a blunder on my work's part. We shoulda given out white tees or elected to wear Reds at home. We did on Valentines Day, so its not like we cant do that.

What's the Raptors record when they wear the red jersey's?

If we win this game I think we have great chance to go into jersey with some confidence and steal a game, maybe both because they aren't that good of a home team, their playoff tickets for the 2 games aren't even sold out yet.

I think we need to defend against layups and easy baskets down low and not forget to attack the basket on the other end.

Man, its virtually impossible to get anything accomplished when you're team is in the playoffs. I'm amped for tonight's game.

Goddamn, Rasho's a beast! He was dominating the boards. And Anthony Parker is my hero. How cool was the buzzer-beating 3?

Our offense wasn't that great, but our D was amazing in the first quarter. We got the momentum, hopefully we can come out swinging in the 2nd.

Can Chris bosh get one ouce of respect from the officials in the playoffs. He's getting fouled on half his shots with absolutely zero calls !!! BS

Edit: I'll say TJ is playing well despite the numbers. The 1-7 is partially due to the lack of ball movement which is forcing him to jack up shots.

I would of like to see Mitchell reward Rasho with another shift in the first half there. low scoring game, the raps need to calm down in the second half if they want to win.

I agree, Rasho's really valuable in this type of low-scoring, defense-oriented game. Peterson also deserves to be starting, IMO. Joey Graham just doesn't seem to have the confidence that he displayed before the playoffs and Juan Dixon's just too much of a mismatch against Carter and Jefferson.

On the plus side, VC is playing exactly the same way (fading away against TJ Ford?).

If we want to win we have to stop turning the ball over so easily, and to play Jose, the team just works better when hes playing.

Put Jose and Bargnani up top, give him a screen and allow rotation so nobody is standing around like when TJ is on, and he all of the sudden is free to go to the basket or pass back to Bargnani.
