Oh, I forgot about the injury factor, cause even if he becomes a really great player in the near future. an injury could ruin all of that. And since Yao is pretty injury prone, it could happen. I'm just hoping it dosen't.

Cheers to that. I mean, it would be such a waste if he would fall to injury.

yeah, the NBA would lose a lot of cash if that would happen. Then suddenly Wang ZhiZhi emerges and becomes the next Wilt and score 101 points, and then Stern beats Bill Gates to become the richest man in the world.

I think if Russell played in today's era Yao would dominate him. He was 6'9 225 or 6'10 220, according to what I've read, and Yao would have a 8" height advantage and a 85-90 pound weight advantage.

Obviously accomplishments-wise it would be incredibly difficult for anyone to attain Bill Russell's accomplishments.

I still have to question his durability, though. He's had injury problems every season and at that height, you have to believe that he'll break down earlier than most players. I think he'll be one of the best centers in NBA history, but I don't know how high I'd rank yet.

    I think he's low - at most he's 20 or so.

But this question is too premature. He's been in the league for 5 years and has never even been past the first round.

Yea as much as I respect Yao, he has a VERY long way to go. You can't go by just stats because Hakeem did so many different things. He was much more dominant than Yao, plus his impact was much more significant.

Why? Chinese people only follow Chinese players? TMac is more popular than Yao in China. And I reckon there are a couple of white and black Yao fans out there. If people only followed players of their own skin tone, NBA arenas would be a lot blacker.

He's only had injury problems the last two seasons. His first three years, he was incredibly durable. He played 244 out of 246 regular season games.

I didn't know that, but, mybe he was getting less minutes in his first 3 seasons. How many minutes did Yao average in those 3 seasons?
