<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Though the Bay Area is abuzz with excitement for the Golden State Warriors' first home playoff game in 13 years, the Warriors are getting a few remedial lessons in keeping their cool. Warriors coach Don Nelson said Thursday he will fine Baron Davis and Stephen Jackson for being ejected from Golden State's 112-99 loss in Game 2 of the club's first-round playoff series against the Dallas Mavericks. Davis and Jackson put on a taunting, preening display that dampened an otherwise successful trip for the eighth-seeded Warriors, who stole Game 1 from the heavily favored Mavs and headed back to the West Coast with homecourt advantage in the series, starting with Game 3 on Friday night.</div> Source: ESPN

He wants to show the league he can discipline his players on his own, instead of having the officials, Stern and Stu(pid) focus their attention on the Warriors. Most coaches wouldn't make this public knowledge, unless they wanted to make some type of statement to the rest of the league.

I guess he thinks that if he fines them himself, maybe they won't suspend Steve Jackson a game or be more lenient.
If Nelson wants to buy more 12 year old scotch, what better way to do it than make your players pay for it. Naw, I totally agree with what Nelson is doing. He can't have players quit on the game no matter how frustrated they are. Let the coach do all the yelling. He's the boss, it should be his call. If players dare the refs to throw them out of the game, they will. So I think Baron and Sjax knew what they were doing when they "got their money's worth." If anyone has ever rebelled against something, they know the other side probably won't give in or tolerate it. So they gotta expect the consequences.
Totally agree, proud of Nelly for doing that. You can't abandon guys depending on you in the trenches because you're getting fouled. Nelly!
I think Don Nelson is emphasizing that you have to play smart basketball before emotional basketball, especially in the NBA Playoffs. This ineffect I guess is part of discipline, but I think in a slightly different direction than some may be interpreting it. The Warriors have played high-emotional, hard-working basketball so far in this series. The problem, especially in game 2, is that they played very dumb basketball running on maybe too much emotion and adrinaline which led to making stupid mistakes after dumb mistake all game long. Players were dribbling into double teams, dribbling off people's feet, falling down on the floor while dribbling it (JRich), making horrible passes, etc. Don Nelson all season has been adament about not making dumb plays like that. In my opinion he should have fined the whole team for coming up with 9 assists and 24 turnovers. The peculiar thing about it, is that he hasn't said how much he's fining them. And who's to know if he actually does fine them? I am sure he will, but it's kind of interesting possibility or twist to the madness. This is just another way for Don Nelson to teach a lesson. Playoff basketball means time to be and play smart on the court.

Yeah, the officiating was horrible, but 9 assists vs. 24 turnovers...you're just not going to win a game like that, ever.
