^I understand what NTC is saying. He is literally meaning the leagues BEST, or Most Valuable, Player. Not the leagues best player on the best team, which is what MVP is currently.
Lets see your the leader, yeah you herd me leader of the best team in the NBA which finished 67-15, the CLOSEST team to your record is 6 games behind SIX, let that soak in for a minute people. You average 25 ppg, 9 rpg, 3.5 apg. And your down 2-3 to the Warriors and people have already jumped off your bandwagon and our now riding on Steve Nash's dick. Just a heads up guys its going to get ugly next series for Nash when he has to play the Spurs. When his Suns are only averaging 80 ppg you guys will be so quick to jump off Nashs bandwagon because his team is not performing in the Playoffs, even though the award is based on regular season achievements, you guys seem to forget so fast. I'm not saying Dirk is a lock, obviously its a tight race between him and Nash. But to say he shouldn't be mentioned based on 5 games is stupid. If Dallas wins the next 2 games none of you guys better hop back on the Dirk bandwagon.

The league should do away with league MVP and just hand out individual team MVPs. Will that satisfy you guys?
<div class="quote_poster">THE DREAM Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">nah, nothings wrong with having a MVP....for the most part they usually get it right</div> Depends on what one would consider "most". Just over 50%? The MVP has awkward criteria and the writers vote arbitrarily at times.
yeah but if you look at the past 20 some odd years the people who have received the trophy were at the top of their game and deserved it for the most part.....
<div class="quote_poster">THE DREAM Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">yeah but if you look at the past 20 some odd years the people who have received the trophy were at the top of their game and deserved it for the most part.....</div> Since 1992-1993 I think the MVP has been wrong on more occasions (not just referring to Nash).
I like what the MVP aims for (the best player out of all the contending teams). But I feel like the criteria isn't stated clearly enough and, more often that not, people just vote based on history. Also, a lot of the voters have undeniable biases.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Since 1992-1993 I think the MVP has been wrong on more occasions (not just referring to Nash). </div> 94 - Hakeem 95 - Robinson 96 - Jordan 97 - Malone 98- Jordan 99 - Malone 00 - Shaq 01 - Iverson 02 - Duncan 03- Duncan (i believe) 04 - KG 05 - Nash 06 - Nash you might not agree with the choices, but none of them are "bad", because you can make a valid argument for each one...
Going by the general criteria used to measure what an MVP is (Stats AND Wins), these are my assessments (Bold = messed up): 1992-1993 = Barkley. I disagree with this choice because his PER was unimpressive and Jordan did win 57 games. <div class="quote_poster">THE DREAM Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">94 - Hakeem</div> Ok. His team won the most games and he is a great defensive player. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> 95 - Robinson</div> Led the league in PER and wins, this is fine. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> 96 - Jordan</div> No explanation needed. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">97 - Malone</div> Jordan had higher Adjusted PER this season I believe. LeBron also won 50 games and had 29+ adjusted PER. (I don't need to mention Kobe this year but he would have been my first "anti-PC" choice). LeBron and Kobe had amazing regular seasons... <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> you might not agree with the choices, but none of them are "bad", because you can make a valid argument for each one...</div> So finally, in the last 14 years, 6-7 MVPs have been messed up (I kind of want to give 1998 Jordan a break but I don't know...).
How can you say Iverson winning in 2001 (when he deserved it) was messed up and agree with Tum Duncan CLEARLY robbing the MVP off a deserving Kidd in 2002?
<div class="quote_poster">Karma Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">How can you say Iverson winning in 2001 (when he deserved it) was messed up and agree with Tum Duncan CLEARLY robbing the MVP off a deserving Kidd in 2002?</div> The Iverson one has to be the easiest one to rip and biggest joke. Are you serious? Shaq was a freaking MONSTER that year. He was MUCH better offensively (30.2 PER compared to Iverson's below average percentages and 24.0 PER) as well as defensively, and his team won MORE games. Duncan is a defensive force with superior offensive numbers and had more wins than Kidd that year...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting huevonkiller:</div><div class="quote_post">Tim Duncan should have won because he had stronger MVP PER and is the best interior defender. Shaq could have also won, heh.</div> What do you mean by "MVP PER?" Is it a separate stat or something?

Now, one more thing to clear up, and that is Assisted FG%. It is calculated as the same for everyone (sort of tedious to keep track of, that's why) but it is usually higher for Centers/Fowards and lower for Guards. Usually, Guards that create for themselves will get a boost of about 1 in PER. Guards that create for themselves and others can get up to about a 1.5-2.0 boost. Centers/Fowards are a bit less efficient than they seem (because of Assisted FG%), so their PER usually goes down by about 1 point. At the same time, Centers/Fowards are usually bigger defensive impacts.
The MVP is always on target, it just doesnt necessarily go to the most deserving player that season. If Dirk wins it this season, it wont be a disaster selection, he just isnt the most deserving player for the award. Like if the award went to Carmelo Anthony, then I'd say we have a problem.
I still think that AI deserves at least one MVP award for his career, he has just been working so hard. Not trying to say that hard workers should win MVp's but i think he deserved it.

IMO, all awards should be given out when the season/playoffs/finals are over. It would show you who really came out on top when its all over.
we're talking about MOST VALUABLE TO YOUR TEAM here, simple you take Dirk off the Mavericks, your line up is Diop Croshere Howard Stack//Harris Terry not a 67 win team, but a 41-47 win team i thnk easily, your dont win 67 games because of 1 guy then take a look at the Lakers, take Kobe off that team, and there not in the playoffs, we're talking about someone here who single handedly brought his team to the playoffs an even bigger push i would make, as arrogant as he is, is Gilbert Arenas as SOON as he went down, team fell apart and got sweeped first round Lebron?...Bosh??.... MVP should be the MOST VALUABLE TO HIS TEAM not just picking a guy from one of the teams best record clubs.... to be honest with u id give it to Nash a 3rd time before i gave it to Dirt Nostinkski
