Oh and on the record, Dirk is probably 5th on that list and you could put Kobe on there over him if you want, but Dirk would barely be off that list. There's not 20 players that I would rather have shooting that last shot then Dirk.

25 points, 8 in the fourth, outcome doesn't matter (because I believe guys like Howard,Terry, and Stack will come to play tonight), and he has to shoot above 45% from the field and he has attempt at least 17 FGs, and 9 of them have to come from below the FT line (we can look it up on a shot chart).

I'm speaking more of a 2 minute drill type of deal...I don't think Dirk is tough mentally and offensively I think he's limited.

We know you don't like him. I'd still like him on my team in a 2 minute drill and again would put him 5th or 6th.

    okay. one more tweak:
instead of 9+ FGA below the FT line, let's say he has to get 12+ of his 25 from either free throws OR points below the FT line. I'm not sure he'll attempt 9 shots in the paint, he might attempt 6, but make 5 of em, so this ensures that he doesn't settle for 3's...
    cool?

    I'll take in no order

    Wade
    Kobe
    Bron
    Melo
    Duncan
    Tmac
    Iverson
    Arenas
    Billups
    Sheed
    Nash
    Amare

and possibly a few more to play big for me down the stretch (last 2 minutes) in a must win game before Dirk.

Wait, how can you put Sheed up there when his game is exactly the same as Dirk's? You've been criticizing that style the entire thread.

    Okay, just to recap:

    25+ points
8+ points in the fourth quarter
13+ points EITHER from free throws OR shots taken below the FT line.
Doesn't matter if team wins or loses.

Of course you would, we differ in opinions. One person that certainly should NOT be on the list is Tmac. Judging by experience for his time in Orlando he is not clutch. He'll get a couple of game winners every once in awhile, but overall definitely not at Dirk's level.

lol, how can you guys make a bet about Dirk's softness/clutchness and not care about who wins the game? Hypothetically, he could satisify all that criteria and airball a potential gamewinning shot, but phunDamentalz would win the bet.

Okay so are we saying that the 13 points have to ALL come from the FT line or ALL from the field...or is this combined together???...example: 6 points from the field, 7 points from the FT line....

COMBINED. i.e 6 points from the field (below FT line) and 7 points from the FT line = I win.

I'm at work til midnight so unfortunately i can't watch it, i'll have to check on nba.com or ESPN.com

No I don't think that, but I just thought it was funny that you guys made a bet about his clutchness and the result of the game doesn't matter. Who care how clutch you are if you're team loses?

Well if Dirk comes up big and takes his game inside, you can't blame it on him. Terry might miss a clutch jumper also.

<div class="quote_poster">THE DREAM Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">I expect him to take it up a notch and play on another level....that's what "any" true MVP would do....Hakeem,Jordan, etc. ALWAYS had defenses (much better than G. States also) geared to stop them, but they raised their level of play....and a lot of times Dirk isn't being sandwiched by 2 or 3 defenders, a lot of it is his inability to score on "1" defender.

LOL, yes of course he'll say that, do you expect a temmate to come out and say "Dirk needs to bring it, because he's playing like a little biotch right now"???</div>

Well if you're going to hold Dirk to Jordan or Hakeem's standard, then of course he's not going to meet those same expectations.

It's really tough to compare this era of basketball to when Jordan and Hakeem played. There's been a lot of rule changes, and the Zone defense allows an undersized team like Golden State or Phoenix to benefit on defense with their speed.

I agree with you Dirk has been off in this series, but it has a lot to do with the ineffectiveness of Dampier and Diop. Those two have been taken completely off their game and it allows Golden State to cheat towards Dirk when he has the ball. It's similar for Kobe and the Lakers. When neither Kwame or Bynum are a factor, Kobe struggles. Just watch how Golden State defends Dirk.

When Dirk posts up they send JRich from the weakside to try and strip him. If Dirk turns to his strongside, he has to get through his man and a secondary defender, usually Harrington or Baron.

Dirk and the Mavs bread and butter play is high pick and roll. The Warriors Zone has taken that away from Dallas offense.

<div class="quote_poster">shapecity Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">He hit two three pointers down the stretch, he wanted the ball and he made those 3's to keep the Mavs in striking distance.</div>

He airballed a 3 a few possessions before that when his team still had a chance to win the game. The two 3's Dirk hit happened when the game was basically over barring a huge GS mistake and another few Dallas 3's.

I agree with Dream here though. Dirk is not an MVP type of player, a lot of people have been saying it before this series, myself included, Dirk is only proving us right in this series. Hes a horrible leader, doesn't make his teammates better and I'd say he makes it harder for them because he makes little or no attempts to play defense which is why Diop is ALWAYS in foul trouble during this series. Hes an amazing scorer and shooter and a very unique player but hes mentally weak and if the scoring isn't there hes a huge negative force for his team because of his TERRIBLE defense (please don't give me some BS about how hes better now than he was before) and he has no playmaking skills.

An MVP wouldn't just lay back and take it when an 8 seed is showing him up, Dirk has had no answers for GS. An MVP has to contribute positively some way, Dirk's stats are good but from watching all these games hes had little impact for his team. IMO the MVP comparisons are magnified much more when Baron Davis is performing like an MVP after journalists all over the country have been shitting on him for years about his injury prone-ness, lack of work ethic, bad attitude, being a "coach killer", horrible shot selection, etc. Now hes playing like an MVP should; raising his game in the playoffs, carrying his team, finding ways to dominate despite all 5 defenders making an effort to stop him, making teammates better, scrapping, playing great defense, coming up with big plays when his team needs it, etc. Meanwhile, Dirk is doing nothing spectacular and allowing his team to get punked, Howard, Terry, and Stack are leading the team, Terry and Stackhouse assembled a team meeting while Dirk attended it like any other player on the team, and Dirk even made some dumb comment about how if they lost game 4 the season was over.

In closing I'd just like to say: The Don giveth and the Don taketh away. Nash better watch his ass and hope he doesn't have to meet us in WCF, Nellie already crapped on him last time the teams met.
