I thought people were overrating him around here when everyone put him as their DPOY.

His defense is not that underrated. He is the first one to be mentioned that didn't make the list. I think he deserved All D NBA 2nd Team.

such BS...battiers one on one defense > Kobe,Bowen, and definitely Jason Kidd......these "all" teams are a downright mockery, because they only put people on there based on their past reps...how does the #1 defensive teams #1 defense player not make the first or second team.....stupid ass people...

Well, Battier narrowly missed making the 2nd All-defensive team

the last person to make the 2nd all-defensive team that was a SF was Tayshawn Prince with 21 pts, and Battier had 17 pts.

I don't know what positions Battier primarily guards (SG/SF/PF?), but the other players who made it ahead of him were.

    SG: Kobe and Kidd
    SF: Bowen and Prince
    PF: Tim Duncan and KG

I can't see Battier making it over Bowen or Prince, nor Tim Duncan or KG.

he really isnt too underrated i suppose since he was 5th on the list for defensive player of the year, but i just think he deserves better recognition.

<div class="quote_poster">THE DREAM Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">I can....especially since he was on the best team defensively through the reg. season...</div>As per how good the Rockets are defensively, they probably deserve a guy in there. (And Battier was close).

The problem probably is that when someone sees the Rockets they probably don't look only at Battier's contributions, but also Yao's, Dikembe's, and Haye's contributions, which also make a big impact.

I can see a case being made that Battier is a better defender than Kobe, Kidd, and Bowen (Bowen is getting a little older, but his defensive awareness and decision making is still good).

But I can't really see Battier being better than KG (his defensive presence, just has a longer wingspan than Battier to defend bigger guys, and help defense), Tim Duncan (unmoveable in the post, except by maybe Shaq + Yao, and he also can deflect shots or at least force players to change their shot), and Tayshawn (I dunno, the guy has plenty of stamina, and is pretty quick to guard SFs, and has been able to bother quick players like Wade with his length (although Wade has played big against him in the past too).

but also i dont understand how for the defensive player of the year he gets 86 total points while the others who made second team recieved considerably less total votes but they make the all-defensive teams.

    Fowards-
    Shane Battier, Houston 7 11 18 86

    Tayshaun Prince, Detroit - 2 4 10

    Kevin Garnett, Minnesota - 2 1 7

Well yeah Battier should have got the nod over Bowen. I mean, why else was Battier invited to the olympics?

I'm also very happy for Hinrich, that guy is the Wade stopper in this league; he matches up very well with him historically.

One last note about Battier, at least he was the first runner up, bah.

It was pretty stupid that they did not put in Shane Battier. Also, I didn't think that it was right to have placed Kobe in there since he wasn't actually playing great defence and was very inconsistent.

The Grizzlies were the best defensive team last season, and Battier only got 6 points. That's underrated. At least he is getting some recognition now.

The Rockets have always been noted as a good defensive team...long before Battier got here.

    This is so stupid.

He gets mentioned for DPOY and he ends up not even getting on any Defensive Teams?

Can you say UNDERRATED?? LOOK AT MY SIG!
