You, know, I was really shocked by this.. How could Kobe be a selection for All Defensive First Team in this year? He didn't play that great on defence because of the offensive load. So, what are your thoughts on this?

By the way, I saw this on NBA.com. And sooryy I can't post a linkcause I don't know how to do that yet.

    Anyway, here are the winners..

    All Defensive 1st Team:

    Forward Bruce Bowen-42 points
    Forward Tim Duncan-36 points
Center Marcus Camby-34 points(unusually, the DPOY has less votes than Duncan and Bowen)
    Guard Kobe Bryant-32 points
    Guard Raja Bell-25 points

    All Defensive 2nd Team

    Ben Wallace-33 points
    Jason Kidd-23 points
    Tayshaun Prince-21 points
    Kevin Garnett-20 points
    Kirk Hinrich-18 points

(When I read the article, I was shocked that they didn't put in Josh Smith.)

I'm a big Kobe fan, but I'm really shocked by this announcement. Kobe did not look like an all defensive selection at all this year for the most part. He had some games when he played great defense, but throughout the season, he was mostly inconsistent. Maybe he could've been in the second team? But I don't really believe he deserves to be on the first team.

I think Kobe struggled at the start mostly because of the surgery. If the writers want to take an MVP from him, at least this is a consolation prize.

I guess this could work, because there wasn't any other guard with good defence. But this is still shocking.

Pretty surprising huh? But, I thought that they would at least put Josh Smith in the All Defensive 2nd Team. What do you think are the reasons that they didn't vote him in? Oh yeah, I have another question.. Why did the DPOY Marcus Camby get less votes than Tim Duncan and Bruce Bowen?

I agree with everyone in that Kobe hasn't played great defense this year compared to previous ones, but I guess this makes up for the MVP they should've given him last year lol...I think last year's MVP should've gone to Kobe and the MVP for this year goes to Nash.

Shane Battier? James Posey? Anthony Parker? I can't believe Kobe is on this team. He's be my first pick on an all-offensive team, but no way in hell he belongs on the first or second team.

Hahaha. Kobe shouldn't have even made it to 3rd Team All Defense this season. He's been subpar on defense the entire season. I think the majority of his votes were given to him off reputation.

Kobe = first team, but Battier doesn't even make the list? Wow. Who exactly does the voting here? [IMG]

One thing for sure, I'll be officially warning anybody who comes in here and says anything bad about Kobe/Laker fans. We're all on the same page that he didn't deserve this.

Not to justify it, but Kobe made the team based on 1) reputation, and 2) defensive highlights .... for the latter, he'll make some crazy blocks and big steals, and the voters will see that on ESPN and draw a conclusion.... that's likely why they forget that he gambles and takes possessions off, this past year anyway. Last year, i thought he totally deserved it.

^^ Josh Smith should have won DPOY [IMG] for his block highlights.

I love Kobe and all, but I'm shocked. His defense was way down from years past and they left off a lot of more deserving players.

Yeah, it was probably the same reason that he voted him in as last year.

It's ridiculous but not that surprising. The All-Defensive teams have always been about reputations.

I believe NBA coaches, and not just anybody in media or wherever, vote for the DPOY, so it won't be solely based on reputation. Obviously these opposing coaches see something in the way Kobe plays D that they felt he deserved the honor this year. They see what we cannot see since we're not there courtside most of the time, or in my case, ever. Props to Kobe!
