This puts even more expectations on the Lakers to make a MAJOR move.

I don't even want Garnett. It's a pipe dream. We've got a better shot at acquiring Jermaine O'neal. We can also get more from Indy in a deal. JO and Marquis Daniels? JO and Tinsley?

I'd love to put together a small deal to acquire Brendan Haywood and use part of the MLE on Jamaal Magloire.

    Tinsley/Farmar
    Kobe/Evans
    Walton/???
    Jermaine/Turiaf
    Maagloire/Haywood

JO and Marquis sound better... then sign a PG with the MLE like Blake or Mo Williams

I think JO and Tinsley would help the Lakers a lot more than JO and Marquis would. You guys need a point guard and Jamal Tinsley is pretty good. Daniels was good in Dallas but I think he was a product of that system so he may not play well in Los Angeles (just like he didn't play great in Indiana).

^ Actually, Daniels was one of the better players for Indiana this season. I think Phil Jackson would love to work with a player of Daniels' skillset and athletic ability.

I definitely think that JO and Marquis would be more beneficial to the Lakers because Jackson could use Marquis as a big PG at times and he could give Kobe a rest at other times. That means we could move Mo Evans to back up Luke. I think it'd be harder to do a deal with Indiana involving Marquis. I think they'd want to unload Tinsley's contract. The only deal we could probably offer would be Odom, Kwame, Bynum, and Vlad Rad for Jermaine, Tinsley, and Marquis.

What do you guys think about this trade:

LA sends: Andrew Bynum/Lamar Odom/Kwame Brown/1st round pick
Portland sends: Zach Randolph/Darius Miles/1st round pick

Then draft Spencer Hawes with the pick they aquire from Portland, and sign Maurice Williams with the MLE:

    PG - Maurice Williams/Jordan Farmar
    SG - Kobe Bryant/Maurice Evans
    SF - Darius Miles/Luke Walton
    PF - Zach Randolph/Ronny Turiaf
    C - Chris Mihm/Spencer Hawes

That's a damn good team IMO, if they can stay healthy and the young guys like Farmar, Williams, Walton, Turiaf, and Hawes develop.

I don't know, ZBo and Darius Miles trying to function in the Triangle offense could be a disaster. I'd like the team to get a player with ZBo's physical play in the post, but he comes with a lot of baggage.

Talent-wise it's close, but you factor in Triangle experience, it's a tough sell.

As for the Indy trade, I wanted Marquise Daniels on this team since he was in the NBA Draft. I'm a big fan of his game, he'd be fantastic next to Kobe in the backcourt.

We should send a package for tinsley and oneal sign magloire, blake or m.williams, trade our other unwanted peices for some good defenders and rebounders, that would make the focus of our offense kobe, the oneal, then magloire/tinsley. tinsley is a great passer and not that bad at defense. all the rest of the sqaud fills in on D and gets all our rebounds that lead to our fast break of tinsley, kobe and walton, all good at scoring, all can run and most of all, are all great at passing. we will be a balanced team. one that can break it down into the triangle and feed it inside to the bigs (therefore giving kobe more room when he has the ball) and kick it out to tinsley or walton for the three, plus we can get the defensive rebound with our big defenders like oneal and magloire, kick it to tinsley and there is our showtime, imagine it, and this is all realistic, much better than just getting garnett and a couple scrubs. we'll have depth in our roster again and we wont be so tired and slow when we play, mitch and jim need to make these moves.</div>
Hahaha, Ron Artest is a d1ckhead but as long as he performed on the court, that's all it matters man...This team needs toughness and defense. And it just so happens two of those aspects are championship requirement. Sure Ron's off-court issue is a distraction, but Phil had a history of dealing with bad behavior, (ex Dennis Rodman). With Kobe/Artest/JO or Kobe/Artest/Lamar or Kobe/Artest/Gasol, then I'll be more confident in the Lakers competing for championship. Right now this team is a bunch of wussy, Ron Artest is the answer. But it is a risk. You don't win without taking risk man...[IMG]

How can he do well on the basketball court when he's too busy being sentenced in the criminal court?

Thing is, Ron Artest's problems outweigh his talent. If he can get in trouble in a small town like Sacramento, imagine the wide variety of trouble he can get into in LA.

I'm sure he will plays more games for the Lakers than Kwame Brown will. [IMG]

I agree, gambling on Artest is low-risk, high-reward for the Lakers. Ron Artest only makes $7.8M next year, so he's a bargain for what he could potentially bring to the Lakers. If he doesn't work out, then the Lakers don't take a major cap hit for an All-Star caliber player.

This all sounds great, but the tough part in getting Artest is the fact he plays for the Kings. The Maloofs backed out on a deal, which would have sent Bibby over, but they just couldn't live with the idea of helping out their made up rivalry with the Lakers. I'd imagine they would have a similar stance with sending Artet to LA, UNLESS, the Lakers highly overpaid for him.

If we've learned anything from past blockbuster deals, they tend to come out of nowhere. All the names being discussed are the usual suspects in the Laker rumor mill.

I really liked whatthef's suggestion of signing Matt Carroll. He's a gamer, and has no fear taking tough shots. He goes right at his defender and has a sweet jumpshot. I'm not sure what level his playmaking ability is at, because he's never had to play that role in Charlotte with Felton and Knight at PG. Carroll can shoot, he has good size 6'6 and should be relatively affordable in the free agent market.

Have any of you guys read the ESPN Insider article about Artest for Kwame?

Yes, it's pure speculation by a writer from the Sac Bee. He also mentions Artest for Walton + filler, Artest for Maggette, and possibly Bibby to Miami or Clippers.

Not going to happen between these two franchises.

If all we have to give up for Ron Artest is Kwame Brown or Luke Walton, we would be crazy not to accept, though I doubt it will actually happen. Ron Artest has A LOT of character issues. The guy is just messed up in the head. Any team that aquires him will be taking a gamble. But the Lakers cannot afford to stay pat, a gamble must be made. We passed up on guys like Baron Davis and Carlos Boozer in the past because of their "issues." Now look at how well they're performing in the playoffs. I have faith that Phil Jackson will be able to tame Ron Artest.

Now, whether it will happen or not is a different question...

Ron Artest is on an entirely different level than Caron Butler and Baron Davis in my opinion. Artest has had so many problems with the law it's not even funny. All of the teams that have acquired him have "taken a gamble" and it hasn't worked out. We all know he had some problems in Chicago (although they weren't as bad as his current problems), even more problems in Indiana, and now in Sacramento, he's locked up. I don't think he's worth it and you guys should take a gamble on a player who won't constantly be in trouble.

Who? Jermaine O'Neal? Kevin Garnett? Pau Gasol? Those are just big pipe dreams that have little to no chance of occurring.

I'm not saying that there is a big chance we will aquire Ron Artest, but if what the article said was true (which I doubt), we would only have to give up Kwame Brown or Luke Walton for Ron Artest. If that's all we have to give up, why wouldn't we make the trade?

Like shape said, it's a low-risk high reward for the Lakers. Ron Artest has tons of talent, and when he is focussed, he is one of the top players in the game. Kwame Brown and Luke Walton don't even come close to the type of talent and impact Artest can bring us. If you pair up Artest with a player like Kobe Bryant, and a coach like Phil Jackson, I'm pretty sure they will be able to keep Artest "in check" to some degree. Remember, Jackson delt with Dennis Rodman back in Chicago, and he managed to keep the duo of Shaq and Kobe in check despite their differences off the court.

I'm not saying that Ron Artest will become a completely different person in Los Angeles, for all we know, he could be the same exact Ron Artest, or maybe even worse. But given our "supposed" price tag from the article, there is no way we do not take the gamble.

How would Kobe feel if he learned the management turned away from a talent like Ron Artest, when all the Kings wanted in return was super bust Kwame Brown, or an average role-player in Luke Walton? Probably not happy at all.

About all the Artest specualtion.. We need a player like him. A rough and tough guy, he is a excellent player. Jordan had Rodman, why cant Kobe have Artest?

because artest is alot worse than rodman, not his game, but his actions. we dont want someone that bad on our team, he would eventually do something really stupid and fuk things up, like he has in every one of his teams that he has played for. we should go for maggette if we want toughness.
