Do the officials have TOO MUCH control of the game?

We've seen some of the silliest techs this year in the playoffs. To the point where I've been left scratching my head. I sit down to watch a great playoff game only to have a key player thrown out because he was "clapping". Really think about this, ejected from a game for "clapping". What kind childish bullsh*t is that. In the heat of the momment when ur team just had a tough break and fans are screaming & yelling ur name in vain, ur kicked out for "clapping" at a official. Whatever happened to the days where the actual players could decide the game. The officials have completley took away the emotional aspect of the NBA. Just imagine how the Bulls would've been affected if these silly rules were applied in their Rodman era. Some of the most entertaining players were highly emotional on the court. THAT'S WHAT PEOPLE PAY TO SEE! Now it seems like the officials have been giving the right to single out players like Stephen Jackson, Baron Davis & Rasheed Wallace. Can you say "TOO MUCH" control. I'd like it if the officials would just focus on makin the right foul call, and stop worrying who a players "clapping" at. After all, with thousands of fans "clapping", why would you be worried about Stephen Jackson?

Agree with you but the Baron Davis clapping incident was a little more understandable then the Jackson one. Baron already had a T and was blatantly clapping while staring straight at the official with a sarcastic look on his face and he didn't stop when warned. Jackson on the other hand was clapping calmly, he was at the FT line waiting for Dirk to go take his FTs, it looked like he was just cheering up his teammates, he wasn't looking at the ref, and he didn't have a T so somehow that cost him an immediate 2 T's. Not to mention that the game was over. I've heard that that was the same official who threw them out in Game 2 as well but I don't know or sure.

I disagree. The NBA is basically targetting certain people at this time, and Rock4Life is right. I remember when D wade in this years playoffs started clapping at the ref and pointing and saying , 'hey, hey nice call" and he didnt even get a tech but then baron davis gets his 2nd technical for clapping? David stern is the worst commisioner, IMO, compared to the other commisioners of the big three sports (base bal football basketball). he totally gave all control to the refs this season. they dont let any emotion occur anymore. you scream or ur disappointed with yourself for doing something and you pick up a technical. if your mad at a call by the ref, and you dont insult them but express your emotion, you get a technical. anything you do now that has the slightest bit of emotion isnt allowed in the NBA. david stern says he wants to take out the hip hop part of basketball and all that stuff but hes really trying to take out all emotion so he can control everything. this guys trying to be a dictator.

I completely agree its gettin ridiculous. Stern is catering the game towards families, and thus trying to clean up the NBA's image. Emotion is part of the game, and the refs have too much control over it. The officiating has been absolutely awful in most of the first-round series.

I suggest using college officials in the NBA games and cycling them through. This way you don't let officials build a relationship or grudge against certain players. These NBA officials are worse than any official in the 4 major sports. The first step though, is getting rid of Stern and Jackson.

lol thank you. and is there someone higher up in the NBA than david stern? because if so he should fire david stern, and if the players association has any say, then they should impeach stern lol
