Kobe: "I think I can play at this level for another six, seven years"

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">With Lakerland clearly in need of a hopeful sign or two after this five-game exit in Round 1 and a measly two wins over playoff teams after February, this is the best double-fisted tonic we can offer:

    1. In our recent chat with Kobe during this series, he stressed that, yes, he wants to retire a Laker.

    2. During that chat, Kobe also disputed the notion that the Lakers will only see the 28-year-old's best for a few more years.

"I think I can play at this level for another six, seven years," Bryant said. "I still have one more bullet to fire."

Translation: Bryant ranks as the game's greatest singular talent while eating pretty much anything he wants. By changing his diet when necessary, Kobe figures he can extend his longevity as an All-Star.

It would be fantastic if he could play 6 or 7 more years at peak level. He keeps himself in excellent shape, but after 30 your body doesn't recover as quick. Kobe could always evolve his game, but eventually his athleticism is going to deteriorate in a hurry. Gary Payton was averaging 20PPG and 8APG at age 34, so it's not too farfetched to see Kobe still producing at age 34 or 35.

I think that Kobe could average 20 plus for many years to come and become the leading scorer of all time.

The thing is a guy with a mindset like Kobe is always going to assume he's going to play at a high level for many years, what's he going to say "I'll probably be a stiff once i hit my 30's..." He can def. be a 20+ point scorer for MANY years, hate to say it but I'd give him 3 more years as a bona fide #1 option....

6 or 7 years is an awfully long time... IMO i think he has around 3-4 more years as the best scorer in the league before he starts to deteriorate...

If Kobe says he can. I believe he will. The man is a workhorse and his drive is incredible. I would not doubt what he says at all.

I think he can continue to be the first option until age 35, barring any freak injury of course

y'all are crazy thinking he can be the first option at 35, scoring guards are the quickest to age, cause their game is based on quickness, whereas big men it is their size and point guards it's their vision. look at Stackhouse, Finley, yes, Kobe is better than them, but they got "old" out of nowhere....this is still a young man's game. Amador, just cause your'e in love with Kobe doesn't mean i don't know a couple of things so sit back and learn, kid.

I dont see kobe deteriorating till at least 33. 35 may be a bit of a stretch, but the best players always find a way to contribute.

Yeah it's going to be tough at 35 for Kobe to have the responsibility of being the number 1 option. I can see him doing it for stretches of a game, and still being counted on to close games out. Similar to what Cassell was doing for the Clippers. Even Cassell can still take his man off the dribble. Older players rely on savvy moves and creating the right angles to beat their man off the dribble.

The hardest part for Kobe will be on defense. Staying in front of younger SG/SF will be tough at age 35.

Shape its not fair to compare Kobe to Sam. Sam hasnt been in great shape his whole career and never lifted a weight in his life. the way Kobe stays in shape matched with his skill set he will syill be a Strong force in the league. Look what mike did at 34 he won his 6th ring. and at 40 was still putting up multiple 45 point games. kobe is in the same shape mike was at this point in his career.

I'm not comparing him to Sam. I was just pointing out to Phundamentalz, scorers will always find away to score, and Sam is the example I choose to use. He's not fast, he can't jump, but he can still shoot and create space to get his shots off.

not to mention, Kobe doesn't rely on his athleticism as much as other guys, but moreso on his skillset. As his body slows down, his IQ just keeps rising.

look lets just sit back and enjoy what kobe is doing now, maybe he could be playing as a number one scoring option till 35, maybe he could only maintain that position till 32 or 33. nobody knows more about him than him so i think we should listen to what kobe's saying rather than people who think what they say is the only logical answer.

phundementalz, you dont know kobe, you dont know whats inside his head and you dont know his body, only he does, so if he says he feels he can play at this level for another 6 or 7 years than beleive him. i think his opinion means alot more than yours at the moment, no offence or anything, just being honest.

I just hope the lakers can get it together before kobe's time runs out.

</div>true, i'm just playing devil's advocate. i take everything with a grain of salt. a confident guy like him is always going to have a confident outlook on his future - nothing wrong with that. I just feel that by the time he's 34, he'll be paired up with an Amare or a Durant and they'll be the #1 guy, and he'll be #2....i guess we'll find out in a few years if i'm right or full of s**t but that's just what i foresee
