<div class="quote_poster">Sabretooth Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Think of this in totality. The playoffs aren't about seeding. They are about match-ups. And Dallas ended up with probably the ONLY team in the NBA who has their number. </div> So, so, true. I wouldn't press the panic button on Dallas just yet. Like someone said in this thread, Dallas needs a distributing PG more than moving Dirk.
Let's try to keep this thread clean, and on topic. If "The Dream" and "NBA MAN" are having problems please contact each other through the private messaging system.
With Stack most likely gone, the team is going to be softer than before, plus they gotta find a new sixth man.

Dallas isn't in a good situation to get a superstar from possibly rebuilding teams, such as Kidd, O'Neal or KG, because they just don't have many chips to work with. In order to get them, Dallas must have young talents and expiring contracts. While Dallas has young talent, such as Howard, Harris and Diop, they have no big and short contract to match their salaries. And, no rebuilding team would want Terry and his 9.5 mils/5 years contract or Dampier with 10 mils/4 years contract. I don't think Dallas would trade Howard for anything short of KG, and in order to match KG's salary, you have to give far more than Howard's contract. That's why I don't think there will be a lot of change for Dallas, unless they swap Terry or Dampier for another good players with huge contract, and hope for the best...
I don't think Dallas wants to trade Dirk. I just read an article saying that the management still belives he can lead that team to a championship. Cuban and Nelson still belive.
<div class="quote_poster">dallasdude Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Exactly..I've been saying that for ages. They should've traded his sorry ass for KG long time back. There is absolutely NO CHANCE the mavs are gonna win the title with Dirk as the #1 option. I was pissed off when the Mavs didn't trade for Iverson. If only they could have put together a deal with Terry, Stackhoue(expiring contract), Croshere(expiring contract), and a couple of first rounders, Mavs wouldn't be in this mess. Iverson is exactly the player that would have taken the pressure out of Dirk. Iverson/Howard/Dirk would've been the best trio in the league. Oh well.</div> Wow, that would have been an awesome trade for Dallas. I am happy, as a Warriors fan whose team just faced Dallas, that such a deal didn't happen. Iverson, Howard, and Dirk would be sick. By the way, I like Ager. He has done well, in the two games I've seen him perform. But really, it's all about matchups. If it were all about talent and skills, then the Mavericks wouldn't have spent the money on Dampier instead of Steve Nash. Last year Dampier probably helped in the playoffs and the finals run. But right now in a situation of total disarray, what is there to think for the Mavericks? If I'm the Mavericks I look to see what is available in the draft, then free agency (if they actually have caproom after Croshere and Stackhouse come off the books) to see what they can find, then maybe look to make a trade if they see something not being right. As far as dealing for KG: Kwan may be right about contracts not fitting. But as far as Dirk and KG on the same team, you don't have to worry about Dirk playing the SF position because I think the better situation would be having Dirk as the 4 and KG as the 5 (especially since there is no Shaq in the West, and plus you have Dampier on the bench for some time to help out against Duncan, and I am not sure who else Dampier is good for maybe Brand). KG and Dirk on the same team would be tough. They are just two names that have choker next to their name and reputation. It's also true that Dallas was the best team from the entire playoffs for the Warriors to face in the first round. I mean, even if the Warriors faced the Lakers in the first round, they probably would have ran into trouble as LA has beat the Warriors pretty bad all season. But I guess it's one of those things. Maybe they'll bounce back like Detroit is doing this season and right now.
Okay so someone said dont ride Dallas because they had 67 wins in the regular season, and my response: 67 wins in the regular season doesnt give you a championship, good play in the post season does. No matter what is accomplished in the regular season, if they dont do anything in the post season, the season was a failure, and something is wrong. If they dont improve from the year before, something is wrong. Last year they made it to the finals and lost 4-2, this year they lose the 1st round in 6 games. Thats a huge margin from last year to this year. They didnt improve, but got much worse. As far as im concerned even if the Mavs were undefeated this season, it would still be a failure because they didnt get farther then the year before. A team's goal is to improve every year, and if thats not wats happening, then you need to change things up. I mean if its like, Dallas got to the finals last year, and they do it again but come up short, or if they get to the western confrence finals and lose, then its ok, and they should keep the team how it is, amybe get some role players or 6th men, but keep the team somewhat the same, but when u go from western confrence champs to 8 seed over 1 seed upset, you need to change stuff up, and im sure most people agree with me when I say that change has to be in dirk, wheter he becomes more clutch and can be a leader, or whether he gets traded for a real leader.
