Telfair is the deal breaker for me. I don't even consider him much of an upgrade over Smush Parker. He's undersized, has character issues, and doesn't know how to manage a game. I'd prefer to acquire Delonte West instead, or Tony Allen if he can recover from his freak injury. I'd also love to see Leon Powe shipped over to further improve our depth. He'd give the Lakers a post presence when the second unit takes the floor. I'm very much in favor of a Kobe-Pierce duo for the Lakers. These two are both hungry at winning a title, and teams will have a tough time defending the Lakers.

The whole gun incident was a mistake and I'm sure he regrets it but I don't think the mistake he made questions his character. Maybe I'm taking the word 'character' too literally but Telfair is a good kid who made a mistake. He's 22 and has all the potential in the world. It will be a low-risk acquisition for the Lakers. If worse comes to worse, they can easily get rid of him. Honestly, the Lakers (and their fans) are banking on Bynum's potential down the road. By the time Bynum really becomes a "force", Kobe will be declining. You can also tell Kobe was very upset with the way the Lakers went out. He wants changes and I'm sure he won't be shy to continue this new trend and request - or demand - a trade if he feels management isn't doing their part.
shape, when are you ever going to change your sig? lol. Ronny Turiaf owned your boy, Leon Powe in our last matchup against the Celtics this season, I believe

This is the second time Telfair was involved with a gun incident. To top it off he had an unregistered license. The first time you can call it a mistake, the second time it's his fault. Either Telfair has terrible luck with the police, or he's an idiot. Either way I wouldn't want him on the Lakers. He's a terrible fit for this roster because he doesn't have the skillset to function in the PG role within the Triangle.

Telfair without character issues? Please, stop defending him, there's no way you can convince us other wise, he's a street thug who doesn't belong in the NBA. As for Kobe requesting a trade, I don't see him doing that. I can see him taking shots at the organization and telling them to do something through the media, but I couldn't imagine him PUBLICLY asking/demanding for a trade.

Kobe demanding a trade at this time is just dumb, beacuse first of all who would you tarde for Kobe at this point in time? The only person up to his value is LeBron. Which is a next to impossible trade. Also, Kobe is proud person, he wants to bring a chapionship back to LA and retire as a Laker.

He should've taken responsibility for the gun charges the first time he was involved with the incident. He could've told his wife to get rid of the gun or taken the responsibility of registering a firearm under his name. Driving around with a suspended license might not be a major deal, but it just points to being irresponsible again. All these little charges and mistakes lead to distractions, and if you're not responsible enough to keep your license current, how can your coach or teammates trust you to mange a game for them as point guard and floor leader? This is why I question Telfair's character. I respect how he came up from a rough childhood, but at some point he took his talent and privleges for granted instead of making the most of his opportunities. This is a kid who couldn't win the starting point guard role on two struggling, rebuilding franchises (Portland & Boston.) I just don't see how anyone can justify how he could make it with the Lakers, when their focus is winning a championship title.

By no means am I suggesting we do trade Kobe Bryant, but if we do (which we won't), we won't get back equal value in return. Just look at the Allen Iverson trade for example.
<div class="quote_poster">lakersfan171 Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Laker's don't need Pierce they need somebody that is tall and strong like KG.</div> The reality is, the Lakers might not be able to acquire KG via trade. It's really up to KG to demand being traded to the Lakers and Lakers only. Even then, the Lakers would have to give up a lot of pieces to match KG's salary. If the Lakers can land Pierce, there's still an opportunity to acquire KG IF he opts out after next season. It would have to be even more tempting for KG to play alongside Kobe and Pierce. LA would probably be able to offer $10-$12M per season for him aswell.
They proposing to send Odom, Bynum and Luke walton for Paul Peirce and Telfair? If we did that we'd be getting screwed even worse than we did in the Shaq trade. You're trading away you're two best play makers (odom and walton) and their pride and joy (bynum) for a player who plays almost the same position as Kobe and telfair who is basically a quicker smush parker, without the outside shot.

If the deal was tweaked to include West or Rondo instead Telfair, I'd be in favor of it.

One thing we have to understand is that GM's are reluctant to send an All Star to the Lakers because they know the potential consequences. Teaming the best player in the league with a fellow All Star means that we are going to be a force, hence the players the other team recieves are not likely to help that team to many championships. I can't think of a time when an All Star player was sent to a team which already had one of, if not the best player in the league.
