<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">ST. LOUIS, May 14, 2007 -- For the second time in his career, Bryan Colangelo, President and General Manager of the Toronto Raptors, was named The Sporting News? NBA Executive of the Year. Colangelo also received the honor in 2004-05 when he guided the Phoenix Suns to the third-greatest turnaround in NBA history. After 15 years with the Suns, Colangelo, 41, joined the Raptors on Feb. 28, 2006, and began building the roster around star forward Chris Bosh. With the top pick in the 2006 NBA Draft, Colangelo selected Andrea Bargnani. Under Colangelo?s first full season at the helm, Toronto won its first Atlantic Division title, earned home court advantage in the Playoffs for the first time in team history and won a franchise record-tying 47 wins ? a 20-win improvement over the 2005-06 season. For his outstanding work with the Raptors, his fellow executives gave him 20 of the 45 votes cast. Finishing second in the voting was Rockets General Manager Carroll Dawson who received nine votes. Seven other executives received votes for the award. Colangelo?s father, Jerry, won the award four times. </div> http://www.nba.com/news/bryancolangelo_070514.html no surprise there...
We knew he'd be a great man for the job, but who the hell could've guessed he'd turn out such great results so early. A little off-topic, but Colangelo reminds me of one of those infomercials that you always see that gurantees that the product that they're selling works in just a few days. He's that damn good.
I think we were all expecting this, so there's nothing much to say except he did a very good job, and let's hope he continues on that.
According to hoopshype, Roko ukic signed with Toronto Another good move by BC( some credits to babcock as well )
The only thing I think I have against Colangelo is giving Ford the contract he did, it seems to big a contract and I think Calderon is a better team-oriented pg, he just needs to improve his jumper (on average its better than previous seasons). Will we be able to re-sign Calderon?

IMO, we HAD to sign him because we gave up Villanueva. 4 years/8-8.5 million per year isn't that bad, I'm sure he'll improve.

<div class="quote_poster">Ford_11 Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">What's a Roko Ukic?</div> It's an undersized european combo guard who babcock drafted with our second round pick in 2005. He was supposed to be very highly rated when we drafted him (some mocks had him going in the 15-25 range). He's undersized and under performed in europe but he's playing in a system that is outside his game and behind perhaps the best guard in europe (navaro?). If nothing else he'll be a good bench buddy for uros.
Undersized seems to say that he's short, though he's 6'5. Saying he's under weight is more exact. Pretty sure Roko can excel in Sam Mitchell's system. 1 roster open since Mo Pete is likely to leave.

You have to pay for players, and imo, Ford's ceiling is much higher the Jose's.

See, that is what I think the problem might have been, that Colangelo felt that he HAD to sign him, because we gave up Villaneuva, not necessarily because of how he ran the team. Had we given him a 2 year 16 mill contract I would have felt fine, because then if we felt he wasn't good for the chemistry we would be done with him. Had we given him 4 years, 26 mill (6, 6, 7, 7) that would have been more reasonable to me. <div class="quote_poster">Premium Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">What would be a reasonable contract for a young pg that puts up 14ppg 8apg and is still improving? I think an average of 6.5 mill would have been better, or if TJ demanded a more lucrative contract than 2 years with a team option for the 3rd would be something I would have liked more.
