A great, thorough writeup by salary cap guru, Larry Coon. Check out his trade scenario analysis on KG. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">TRADE #1: Odom, Bynum, Evans and Farmar for Garnett. TRADE #2: Odom, Bynum, Evans and Vujacic for Garnett. TRADE #3: Odom, Bynum, McKie (re-signed for $2,099,404) for Garnett (after July 1). TRADE #4: Odom, Bynum and Brown for Garnett and Jaric.</div> Read on: Larry Coon's FAQ on GetGarnett.com

We need to keep Evans. Isn't he KG's friend? That would be better if he was on the team. So ya i like trade 3 also.
<div class="quote_poster">lakersfan171 Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">I like number 3 we need to keep Evans and farmar</div> Not at the expense of missing out on KG. I like both of them on the team, but let's be real about it, both are fairly easy to replace.
Damn. Thats so much to give up. That'd give us Kobe, KG, and Luke Walton (if he's resigned). With absolutely no depth. For the Lakers to become champions again we can't have Luke Walton be our 3rd best player (not hating, he's honestly my fav. laker right behind Kobe), it's just too much pressure on him. What I'm starting to realize is the Lakers will not be able to get KG simply because any scenarios we could do would absolutely gut our entire roster. Also the wolves have said they will not trade KG out west....though they might...might....might... (probably not) but might make an exception if KG asked nicely to come to the lakers..

The duo of Kobe and KG is a better starting point, because you know exactly what you're going to get from them every night. With Odom, Kwame, and Bynum, you have no idea which player is going to show up. Their inconsistency makes it difficult to piece together a championship roster. The Lakers also have some wild cards, Turiaf and Radman. With better conditioning and more discipline on defense, I think Turiaf could develop into an everyday starter for this club, or into the 6th man. Turiaf is capable of averaging a double double for the Lakers, and holding his own on defense. Radman has shown flashed of being a good player for this team, and hopefully his snowboarding incident provides motivation for him to work his butt off in the summer. If he can find a comfortable role in the offense, he can replace the scoring Odom provided. The Lakers will also have their MLE to improve the depth, whether they the entire MLE on 1 player, or they split it between two guys. The Lakers also have 3 draft picks. PG - Free Agent / Sasha SG - Kobe Bryant / SF - Luke Walton / Radman PF - Kevin Garnett / Ronny Turiaf / Brian Cook C - Kwame Brown / Chris Mihm I think this is a solid lineup with KG basically replacing Odom. I'd like to see Chris Mihm return to play backup center. He could fill in the void if Bynum is traded. There's a lot of free agent point guards available, and maybe you add another athletic SG/SF with your 1st round pick.
Why are we talking about KG? McHale isn't trading him out west...if he trades him at all. KG hasn't asked for a trade, there is no reason to even speculate. If KG is traded, it'll be to an eastern conference team. Our best chance at acquiring an all-star big man is Indiana. Jermaine O'neal wants out bad. We've got Luke Walton, Lamar Odom, Andrew Bynum, Kwame Brown (cap relief), and Jordan Farmar we can dangle in their face. Odom, Bynum, and Brown for Daniels, Tinsley, and O'neal? Tinsley/Farmar Kobe/Daniels Walton/Evans Jermaine/Cook/Turiaf Maagloire/Mihm/Turiaf I'd only re-sign Walton if he wants a decent amount of money. I wouldn't over pay for him, he's easily replacable. I'd offer Maagloire the MLE, or part of it...whatever it takes to sign him. Defensively, that team is much improved than our current situation and offensively we're solid. About 10 from Maagloire, 18-20 from Jermaine on a consistent basis with the abilities to drop 20-30 on a given night, Kobe could reduce his offensive effort and focus more on defense. Tinsley's a veteran who is a very good PG when healthy. And to top it off, Marquis Daniels is an ideal guard for the triangle and a solid backup for Kobe.

We do NOT need another Center... seriouly... i fully believe mihm to return better than ever...
McHale wouldn't be the one making the decision, it's going to be Glen Taylor (the owner) getting involved with any deal for KG. There's always a chance the Lakers can acquire KG, but it will take KG demanding to be traded to the Lakers. If he makes this demand than Minnesota will want to get something back for him, even if it means sending him to the West and taking back some pieces they don't really want. They will have to settle, just like the Lakers had to settle when they traded Shaq.
I think Shaq is an invalid rebuttal. We didn't have to settle...Mitch and co. were just hasteful. From what I've heard, Riley's said that the Lakers could've got Wade if they sweated him more. There were plenty of offers on the table, but we let Shaq dictate where he went. I don't think Minnesota would do that. They've got to do what's best for the franchise...and trading KG to LA isn't exactly that. They could get a better deal elsewhere. The Knicks have arguably better talent to trade then the Lakers do. As for Luke being easily replaced. Personally, I think he's overrated by a lot of Laker fans. He's a good role player...but nothing more. He reminds me of Jared Jeffries. He's good in the right system (Jeffries/Washington). I can see him getting a deal like Jeffries, as well.
I wish Kobe, Shamond, and Mo Evans just went to KG's house and persuaded him to come to LA. It would make things so much easier.

No one was going to give the Lakers anything unless they knew they could extend Shaq. I've heard two different stories about Wade being involved, but the story that makes the most sense to me is the fact Shaq wouldn't have agreed to the Heat deal unless Wade was there. The reason why Shaq and Wade worked out was the fact Wade was on his rookie deal. It gave the Heat enough cap flexibility to add on veterans like Alonzo, Walker, and Payton.
