According to Houston Chronicles there's a possibility that Rick Adelman will be the Rockets next option if JVG decides to call it quits. He and owner Leslie Alexander met last week.

With Adelman the Rockets might improve their efficiency on the offense using the Princeton style offensive attack which makes use of the running/transition game, pick and roll as well as the back door cuts. This will make Yao learn to move without the ball which is of an advantage because it will prevent those smaller players from fronting him. Defense might suffer though but if they can hire an assistant coach committed to defense they would be fine. I'm still 50-50 at this thing happening. I like JVG but he needs to give the role players/bench opportunities to play and prove themselves that they can make a difference. How can you build a player's confidence if you only play them during a blowout.

I don't think our defense will suffer that much. Shane battier and Chuck Hayes are defense first type of players. Yao is not gonna slack on defense either. The only difference is our transition from defense to offense might be different meaning less defensive boards.

I am not big on the good ole boy, lets bring in the same guys from the rotating coaches ranks that didn't do much in his old job mentality.

I just hope Les is right about his choice in the new GM, and doesn't bring in more below the rim players, weak at the basket finishers.

^^^but who else is out there that you'd rather have...Adelman has shown to have success everywhere he's been, and he's gotten his teams to the finals twice and almost a 3rd time a few years ago in sactown.....he works well with big men who are passers (like Yao) and he could probably utilize guys like Novak a lot better than JVG....maybe by actually giving them playing time first...

I gotta agree with shaq bring in some new coaches. I think Brian Shaw would be a descent option hes been around some great coaches like Phil Jackson and him being a player himself could definetly help devising a better structured offence.

In all due respect........You actually think we can afford to "experiment" with coaches at this point.

I'm totally excited about the prospect of Adelman taking over. I think Yao will be a MVP quickly in his system.

    Adelman receives high praise

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Van Gundy calls veteran coach 'tremendous' pick

    By JONATHAN FEIGEN
    Copyright 2007 Houston Chronicle

Had Jeff Van Gundy taken that consultant's position with the Rockets, his first bit of advice likely would have been concise and clear:

    Hire Rick Adelman.

The Rockets fired Van Gundy on Friday because they decided they wanted Adelman to take over as coach. The team would not comment on Adelman other than to say it has settled on a leading candidate to replace Van Gundy.

Van Gundy, however, raved about the coach he expects to replace him.

"Rick Adelman is a great coach and an even better man," Van Gundy said. "They'll have tremendous coaching coupled with a group of very, very good, hard-playing professional players. Hopefully, they'll break through next year."

Van Gundy likely would have recommended some other coaches for the job, perhaps including Stan Van Gundy, his brother, who is a leading candidate for several jobs, and Tom Thibodeau, his top assistant, who is scheduled to interview for the Sacramento Kings opening today.

Adelman apparently has been the Rockets' only target since he met with Rockets owner Leslie Alexander and general manager Daryl Morey last week. Adelman has met several times with Morey since. Adelman also spoke with Van Gundy before agreeing to those interviews.

Morey would not talk about Adelman specifically, but if hired, Adelman would have the best career winning percentage of any Rockets coach. Adelman, 60, is 752-481 in 16 seasons as an NBA coach, reaching the NBA Finals with Portland in 1990 and 1992. He has a 70-68 postseason record. He also would join Rudy Tomjanovich as the only former Rockets players to become Rockets coach.

Adelman took Sacramento to the Western Conference finals in the 2001-02 season, losing to the Los Angeles Lakers in overtime of Game 7. He was fired as Kings coach after the 2005-06 season and did not coach last season.

"I can say this, we have a very short list," Morey said. "With the tradition of coaches that Leslie (Alexander) has brought here, and the team we have, we believe we have the most attractive job available and we believe we can get the best candidate. I feel like we've got the best job opening available. We have an owner that's willing to spend whatever it takes to get a top coach.

"I don't think I have a timetable, except getting to the right answer and one that the city of Houston can get behind and feel confident is going to bring us closer to being a champion."</div>
