This might not be such a hot trade for Minnesota. Marion is good and all, but he's been playing with Nash for the past 3 years. Do you think he would be effective? He does get a lot of garbage buckets, but then again he also gets a lot of nice passes from Nash. I don't know if Marion can create his own offense. I think Minnesota would be better off with Lamar Odom than Marion.

<div class="quote_poster">DIRK4L1FE Wrote</div><div class="quote_post"> I think Minnesota would be better off with Lamar Odom than Marion.</div> If I were a rebuilding team, and I had a choice between Lamar Odom and Shawn Marion, I'd probably pick Odom because of his passing skills and the way he can get his teammates involved. If you are a young team, I think Lamar Odom would be more beneficial to the team's development rather than someone like Shawn Marion. Btw, I'm not saying Odom's the better player, I'm just saying I feel Odom can give the young players more opportunity to develop because of his unselfishness. But that's just me, and there may be some bias seeing I've actually been a fan of Lamar Odom ever since his early days as a Clipper

A determined Odom has more utility than Marion does.</div> First of all, your crazy if you think Odom is better than Marion. Your acting as if he was struggling before Nash came along which is false. He averaged 19 PPG/9.8 RPG/2.0 SPG in his 4 seasons as a starter before Nash joined the team in 04-05. Marion is more consistent and a better defender than Lamar Odom. Plus, if the Suns get the 4th or 5th pick they can send it to the Wolves for a player like Al Horford or Yi Jianlian. And on top of that, Phoenix would be offering another 1st round draft pick in a pretty deep draft.

Shawn Marion would probably be re-packaged in another deal to get expiring contracts, cheap young talent, or more future picks.
You guys act as if Steve Nash made Shawn Marion. I'd like to remind you that he averaged 19 PPG/9 RPG/2 SPG in his 4 seasons as a starter before Steve Nash joined the team in 04-05. Shawn Marion is a better than Lamar Odom, plain and simple.

He was still an 18/10 type of guy, Nash just makes his life a little easier. Marion does have the ability to create for himself, he gets more than just dunks and garbage buckets. Just take a look at his career and you'll note that his stats were just as good as they are now before Nash came around.

If both bring their A games, I'd argue Odom is actually the better player. Shawn Marion cannot create shots for himself, and doesn't have the passing ability Odom has. However, Marion brings his A game with a lot more frequency than Odom, which makes him an All-Star, and Odom an underachiever. I'm not sure if Marion would be a good fit in the Triangle offense. Every coach he's played with has never used halfcourt sets to score. Marion has been on uptempo teams where he fills the lane and finishes off alley oops or layups.
<div class="quote_poster">Brian Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Lamar Odom played some of his best basketball in the beginning of the season before getting injured. His size and versatility is what makes him most valuable. The guy abused Shawn Marion in the playoffs last year, and had a pretty decent series against the Suns this year, despite playing with an injury that was said to end his season. I don't think the Lakers have more pieces to aquire Kevin Garnett than the Suns, but they can put together a decent package. Lamar Odom + Andrew Bynum + Jordan Farmar + 19th overall pick + future picks should make the Timberwolves consider. Plus, there's no guarentee that the Suns will end up with the Hawk's pick, considering it is top 3 protected.</div> Yessir
