<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Grizzlies have never had the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft. In previous trips to the lottery, they've had three No. 2 picks, but all they currently have to show for them is Stromile Swift, the second player taken in the 2000 draft.

This year, the Grizzlies, who finished with the worst record in the NBA this season, are assured of picking no lower than fourth in next month's draft. And while they are likely to land a very good player in what promises to be a deep draft, the Grizzlies realize what could lie ahead if they are fortunate enough to pick one or two.

'We have about a 48 percent chance to get one or two,'' president Jerry West said. ''If we can get that, it would change the fortune of this franchise forever.

''We're going to have one of the top four picks, so we're going to get a good player this year. I don't think there's any question we get a good player. I think there's two superstars in this draft. If we were to get one of them, it would be our first superstar here in Memphis, that's for sure. We have some very good players, but we would get a superstar. But again, the odds of that happening aren't as good as everyone thinks they are.''

Ohio State center Greg Oden and Texas consensus player of the year Kevin Durant are the players the Grizzlies covet, the kind of dominant player who fills seats, sells jerseys, and more importantly, makes you a perennial Western Conference contender.

The Grizzlies have had chances in past lotteries to acquire such a player. But whether it was poor analysis of players they selected, or the misevaluation of others they passed on, the team is still in search of a bona fide star. </div>
