Time to vote for the next seven wonders of the world. For some of you, like myself, that are really into this type of thing it may be very difficult to choose. I should note that you need to register to vote, but it isn't much of a process and worth voting. So far 45 million people have voted and I figured that if you haven't heard about this yet, you should have the opportunity before the poll closes in roughly 46 days. Here are the candidates to vote for: • The Acropolis of Athens (450 - 330 B.C.) Athens, Greece • Alhambra (12th century) Granada, Spain • Angkor (12th century) Cambodia • The Pyramid at Chich?n Itz? (before 800 A.D.) Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico • Cristo Redentor (1931) Rio de Janeiro, Brazil • The Roman Colosseum (70 - 82 A.D.) Rome, Italy • Statues of Easter Island (10th - 16th Century) Easter Island, Chile • The Eiffel Tower (1887 - 89) Paris, France • The Great Wall of China (220 B.C and 1368 - 1644 A.D.) China • The Hagia Sophia (532 - 537 A.D.) Istanbul, Turkey • Kiyomizu Temple (749 - 1855) Kyoto, Japan • The Kremlin and Red Square (1156 - 1850) Moscow, Russia • Machu Picchu (1460-1470), Peru • Neuschwanstein Castle (1869 -1884) Schwangau, Germany • Petra (9 B.C. - 40 A.D.), Jordan • The Pyramids of Giza (2600 - 2500 B.C), Egypt • The Statue of Liberty (1886) New York City, U.S.A. • Stonehenge (3000 B.C. - 1600 B.C.) Amesbury, United Kingdom • Sydney Opera House (1954 - 73) Sydney, Australia • The Taj Mahal (1630 A.D.) Agra, India • Timbuktu (12th century) Mali Note: After careful consideration, the New7Wonders Foundation designates the Pyramids of Giza—the only remaining of the 7 Ancient Wonders of the World—as an Honorary New7Wonders Candidate. Therefore, you cannot vote for the Pyramids of Giza as part of the New7Wonders campaign. Vote here
After careful consideration I have voted for the following .. Statues of Easter Island Stonehenge The Taj Mahal The Roman Colosseum Neuschwanstein Castle Cristo Redentor Petra Do I really need to explain why I voted for the Statues of Easter Island? The wonder of these alone are unexplainable for me. Scientists believe they know where these came from, but it still hasn't been officially confirmed and I don't think we'll ever truly know of their original origins and their meaning. Basically the same goes for Stonehenge. The Taj Mahal is just plain beautiful and the fact that it was built for love is wonderful. The Colosseum of Roma is truly one of, if not the most inspiring structure ever created. Basically every stadium to this day uses some bit of inspiration from this. Neuschwanstein Castle is the perfect example of wonder and fantasy. The surroundings it has alone are gorgeous and then you add the castle itself it feels like something right out of a fairytale. Unreal! It will be one of the most underappreciated of the 21 selections I'm sure of it. These last two were on the border with others I left out. Christ Redeemer is a welcoming symbol and although I am not a Religious type I have a strong appreciation for this statue. I don't really know how to explain it. Petra is a wonder of water technology and absolutely stunning to view. I had a very difficult time leaving out The Great Wall, Acropolis, Machu Picchu and Angkor.
The Roman Collosseum and The Acropolis for sure, those ancient buildings amaze me. It would be incredible to see them in person. Same with Stonehenge, anything that is that historic has to be voted for in my opinion. Edit: My final 7 were as follows... - The Acropolis of Athens - Chichen Itza - The Roman Collosseum - Easter Island Statues - Machu Picchu - Stonehenge - Taj Mahal
Angkor The Pyramid at Chich?n Itz? Statues of Easter Island The Great Wall of China Machu Fichus Stonehenge The Taj Mahal
Stonehenge Statues of Easter Island The Taj Mahal (I love this masterpiece) The Acropolis The Colosseum Machu Picchu Christ Redeemer
The Pyramid at Chich?n Itz? The Roman Colosseum Statues of Easter Island The Great Wall of China Petra The Taj Mahal Angkor

The Great Wall of China should be the winner. It's so enormous you can actually see it from outer space. The Neuschwanstein Castle in Schwangau, Germany bad ass. I'll have to visit that one of these days. Angkor is also amazing.

The ones from the balcony feel unreal. As if it were out of a fairytale or fantasy film. I have to go there myself, but if you plan to do so one day be sure that you have enough cash to go to Innsbruck, Austria afterward or before the castle visit too. Not to be missed. BTW, how many of you officially voted?

What's hiliarious are the tourist t-shirts they sell there. "We are Australia without the L." "There are no Koala bears here, this is Austria, not Australia." "Arnold Schwarzenegger made in Austria."
Me too. I don't get it though, who are the ones in control of that website, and will the voting actually count for something (i.e. will future history books, travel guides etc go by the results of the votes)?
Regardless of which ones win, each one of these monuments are amazing. Considering that there weren't any powered cranes and tools and such, all these were built with nothing but man power. Imagine transporting all that rock back in those days. Simply amazing.

That's why I posted it. I think this goes into the "books" as the actual new seven wonders.
