Rick Adelman, the only coach the Rockets targeted or interviewed, agreed to terms on a contract to become the Rockets next coach, a person with knowledge of the Rockets' decision-making said on Monday.
Adelman will fly to Houston on Tuesday and be introduced on Wednesday.

He was the first choice I threw out there after we lost. How ironic he becomes our new head coach.

Irony - the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning.

    I don't see it.

He was an obvious first choice.

god dont be such an ass! who cares!

im glad that the rockets have moved on so quickly, if they had been searching for a new head coach for most of the offseason then it would really hurt the team. what kind of coach is rick though? i know that he was with sactown all those years, but i dont really know what hes like.

Here is a biography of Adelman, near the end it shows what he did with the Kings. He developed Webber, and made the Kings one of the highest scoring teams in the league, hopefully he'll do that with the Rockets.

Beyond the english lesson, great signing by the Rockets. This should definitely be interesting for them next year. They're getting a coach on the opposite end of the spectrum as JVG. However, he better hope the Rockets organization gets him some more offensive players, cause right now, with the way this roster is built, they're going to have issues running Adelman's high octane offense.

Wow...Great to see ur back! You kinda disappeared after the Bonzi thread, in which you defended JVG's 8-man rotation and stated that we didn't need Bonzi. Now that we've seen the 8-man rotation crumble, JVG get fired, and Bonzi's absence missed, how do you feel?

Homer: Well, it seems like the catburglar has been caught by the very person who was trying to catch him.

    Principal Skinner: How ironic...

Seriously though, I think this is a great signing by the Rockets. I'm interested to see how he uses Yao and, honestly, I think he's going to love working with two talented offense players like McGrady and Yao.

On another note, does anybody else think that the Rockets front office was pretty unprofessional with the way they went through this whole process? They were conducting interviews with Adelman while supposedly waiting for JVG to make a decision. And then it comes out that Van Gundy had said that he would stay if they wanted him to, but instead they tried to portray it like he was undecided. I don't know, I just thought it looked like they were trying to make him a fall guy for this year's disappointment. They should have just cut ties with him earlier and admitted that they didn't have confidence in him anymore, instead of playing all these little games.

That was a good episode. I never really liked Van Gundy, but to sign Adleman is a HUGE improvement in my books.

I agree....Being that Morey's inexperienced at dealing with things like this, I'd say that he prolly made it 10x worse. His specialtly is numbers, not public relations.

Morey was merelly a puppet, Les pretty much had enough with JVG's personna and pathetic attemp at a offense. He plain and simply didn't like Jeff. He made the call to terminate JVG , Morey was caught in the middle.

Decent, but it's not an upgrade over Van Gundy. I wish the Rockets would have at least looked at Rick Carlisle.

Hmm.. Novak might turn into our "Peja", aka, offense only and the Bonzi situation might be rejuventated. I wonder how things will turn out. Very interesting indeed...

For all I've always been skeptical Adelman, and even given that he, aloing with George Karl, seem to be flat out cursed to never win a title, he's undeniably a franchise improving coach. Unless that franchise is Golden State.

I mentioned this on another thread, but Adelman is perfect for a team like Houston. His efficient passing offense is really gonna open up shots for the Rockets role players. I'd expect career high scoring for Shane Battier.

Why isn't it? JVG's prolly a better defensive coach, but Adelman's a better well rounded one. Plus Adelman's record speaks for itself.

Did anyone else watch the interview on rockets website? Adelman is going to put Yao at the high post and make him a passer/FT line shooter. Also someone asked if the Rockets can be a running team with Yao. Adelman's response: Sure the Rockets can. Why cant they be? Divac was slow and SAC was a running team.

It seems like theres going to a lot of changes. It almost looks like we will be playing like SAC, when they had C-webb, Peja..etc
