By now, I think most of us have realized that the Raptors don't have a single draft pick in this year's draft. But, that doesn't mean there's nothing for us to talk about. There's probably going to be speculation about us trading for a pick for next couple of months and I have a hard time believing that Colangelo will just sit still with all that talent out there.

So lets use this thread to just talk about draft-related topics. Throw out anything about Toronto and the draft (trading for picks, possible undrafted players, players you think would fit in well with us or are worth taking a look at, what you'd give up for a pick, etc.) or anything about the draft in general (thoughts about prospects, team needs, etc.). I'll post articles if any come up.

Ok I’ve been harping this for months but in any case. I’ll say with something like the 18-21 pick in the draft the raptors select Marco Belinelli who shuts it down from the get go and shuns other teams. We get pay pack for being shafted by some crappy past draft talent.

There has been a guy I wanted Colangelo to go after, he might get picked, but if we trade I think we can get him. He's a spanish guy named Rudy Fernandez

    Source

He's ranked first in the Top 20 SG of 07'. Plus he is great friends with Calderon and Garbo and would be a great back-up to parker if we can trade Mo Pete, for some draft picks.

Fernandez is a SG/PG type player, combo guard as u can say. He could be a quality player in the league especially in the Raptor's system. Belinelli reminds me of Manu Ginobili when he plays, except maybe more flashier.

Though i really doubt the Raps are going to draft anyone. Hopefully they pick up a good undrafted player after it's all over. Plus on the flip side who do we trade to get a pick? Joey Graham?, Humps? doubt any team would want those two especially when this draft is considered "strong". Maybe the Raps can draft Yi Jian Lian for more international flavour.

Our team is becoming like that season of racially motivated Survivor.

What we'd give up is a pretty good question. It almost boils down to us giving up something bigger and getting the pick as part of a throw in.

The only thing i really see that may is via Mo Pete, trade and sign to acquire a pick and something while adding in Graham/Hump/Dixon or someone that basically is expendable. Although Peterson may or could sign with any team especially a contender for the MLE.. ala Spurs, Suns, Dallas?, Detroit. Detroit would be the obvious choice.

I think they should try and package Hump/Graham.Peterson or something in a draft pick deal. Try to get at least top 20 so you can have some more young players.

Peterson is out of contract unfortunately.

Our best trade bate would probably be Calderon or Ford. After that our only option might be to offer a future pick.

If I were to trade Ford or Calderon, I would trade Ford. Calderon showed me that he is a much better PG. Ford is a PG because of his height, IMO.

Unfortunately, this draft might make teams really cling to their draft picks. Last season, they were basically given away for nothing because team's didn't think the rookies would be worth the salary. This year, it'll take something significant to even move into the late 1st round.

On another note, with Boston falling back there's the very real chance that Yi Jianlian and Andrea Bargnani will face each other 4 times a year. That'd be cool.

True, I'm sure this year you'll have to give up alot more for draft picks. I would love to see Jianlian and Bargnani play eachother.

The Raps can try to swing a deal for Suns' first.. Since they don't want to go close to the luxury tax. Or swing a deal to get Marion or Diaw who could be on the block...

We don't have anyone for Marion, we arn't gunna give up Parker, and Mo pete is a free agent. Ford will stay, and so will Garbo. Maybe they'll take Graham, Dixon, Humphries. I dunno, but the suns really want KG.

^^ Actually the problem probably is that we don't have anyone with a salary near Marion's. Marion makes 16.4 mill, the minimum we would have to send is 13.12 mill in salaries.

Our salaries next season are Bosh 12.45 mill, TJ 8 mill, Rasho 7.8 mill, Bargnani 4.8 mill, Parker 4.3 mill, Garbo 4.0 mill, Dixon 3, Calderon 2.5, Humphries 2.5, Graham 1.6.

A deal probably can't be made with one of Bosh, TJ, or Rasho. I'm guessing most people don't want to trade Bosh for Marion, so that leaves TJ or Rasho required to be part of the trade, or both.

That, I would do. It sounds good. Thanks for the stats though, I wanted to know what our cap was. (seriously, I'm not be sarcastic) I dunno if Phx would do it, but maybe we throw in Graha, or Dixon, then we add some other players. It could work.

From today's Doug Smith raptor's mailbag:

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Q: I've read rumblings on the Internet that the Raptors might be shopping for a first-round pick for this upcoming draft. If that's true, who would they likely trade with to get that pick and who would they trade?

    Jonathan Lau, Shenzhen, China

A: Shenzhen, China? Man, I need a doctor of geography or something to keep up with all these far-flung places.

The rumblings you've heard are correct, you can be sure Bryan Colangelo is going to try to get into the draft, but I think it'd be by buying a pick rather than trading for one. Maybe he offers money and Juan Dixon or Joey Graham but the money will be the thing.

As for whom? You'd have to look at teams with more than one pick in the first round because they might want to divest themselves of the guaranteed contract that comes with it.

That'd be the likes of Philadelphia, which has three picks; Detroit and Phoenix, with two each. A lot of people might look to Atlanta or Phoenix but I'm not sure the Hawks will deal No. 11 and I'm not sure Phoenix would want to deal with the former Suns exec.

But you gotta know Colangelo's going to try.</div>

Good, I'm glad he is going after a pick. I'm sure he'll get one. Hopefully the
    11th pick, or top 20.

Phoenix is the best bet, IMO, but I don't know what kind of relationship they'll have with Colangelo. They certainly have a history of trading picks away and with Atlanta retaining their pick, they might not want to waste cap space on a prospect that isn't a sure thing.

I really have no clue as to how our offseason's going to end up though.

I have faith in Colangelo to come through, he isn't one to stay back and just watch. I'm sure he will do what he can to get a pick, becuase to miss this draft, won't be to good. I hope he can get a guy like Brewer or Fernandez.

    Lets Go Colangelo!

I'm hoping for BC to grab second rounders and try to get steals too. Or a very late first to grab Marc Gasol.
