I've been saying all along that I didn't think this year was going to be a good one for the Vikings. I don't know what I think about Childress yet...in fact, the only new addition that I really like is Tomlin.

The Startribune.com today printed this story: http://www.startribune.com/510/story/598836.html

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>The first week of coach Brad Childress' inaugural Vikings training camp has registered as the most physically demanding in recent team history, featuring more live hitting and consecutive days of full pads than some prominent players have ever experienced. They recognize Childress' desire to evaluate them in game-like conditions but are eager for a pullback that might not come until the end of this week.

"This is the most physical camp I've ever been associated with," cornerback Antoine Winfield said. "I've never been associated with tackling people to the ground in camp. It's a long season. You have four preseason games and 16 regular-season games. We're definitely going to get enough hitting. But I understand where they're coming from. They want to see what we can do when everything is full-go."

"I can understand it from that aspect, but this is my eighth year in the league. I know how to tackle," Winfield continued. "So [in camp drills] I just try to get myself in position. I'm only 185 pounds. I can only take a certain amount of hits. I'm trying to last the whole season."

Winfield, fellow cornerback Fred Smoot, quarterback Brad Johnson and fullback Tony Richardson -- a group that has combined to play 41 NFL seasons -- all acknowledged the highly physical nature of Childress' training camp.</div>
I'm a bit afraid that Childress is killing the players now and that its going to come back and bit him in the ass in a few months...

Childress has rubbed me the wrong way already with his childish arguements with Pepp, but maybe it will payoff for them later this season huh?

Well maybe a little boat cruise will relax them. Seriously though I think the Vikings are due for a tough coach for a change

Good for childress.. I mean this will add wear and tear on the vikings but this could toughen them up alot and make them the team they are capable of.. but time will tell.. i think he is coughlin jr

I am all for the coach being tough on the players - and being much tougher than Tice was, but there is a point where it is no longer reasonable. If a rookie head coach is getting a name for running the leagues toughest camp, doesn't that raise some questions?

Even the toughest players wear down.
I think that he is trying to show the team that he is the new coach and things are gonna change. But I think that he may be going a little overboard in doing that. I understand he wants to make sure the players change and become more disciplined, but I think he is risking injury. I mean training camp is supposed to get you ready for the season, having them go full bore before they're ready is a big risk.

No they dont. The toughest players are fine. In fact, if you have a team full of tough prepared players, this doesnt mean a thing. If you have a lot of girly men like the lions, then you get crying like little babies about how tough it is.
