SportsNation Chad Ford: They should go after Jerry West. The team needs a top executive who's not afraid to shake things up and who isn't taking orders from Kobe. The Lakers have a lot of work to do to get back to championship form. I just don't see Kupchak getting them there. If West won't do it, I think they should pursue Kiki Vandeweghe. </div> Source: Chad Ford Chat Wrap
Jerry West is leaving the Grizzlies on July 1st, so cross your fingers. However, if they bring the Logo back, I hope this doesn't count as the "the major change."

He's been practicing since last winter, he's added a lot of upperbody strength during rehab. <div class="quote_poster">Karl_Mal0ne Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">I think he has already started practicing and will be ready next season, but will he be good?</div> Mihm has never been good, he's been servicable, which is all we can expect from him if the Lakers decide to re-sign Mihm. I'd like to bring him back, because he's perfect as a backup center, and knows the offense. He'll have something to prove to himself once he gets back. With Mihm it's all about keeping his confidence up. When he gets down on himself he picks up stupid fouls and then ends up watching on the sideline.
I would love West back, after all he is the one that brought Shaq and Kobe to LA. He is known to make big blockbuster trades and this could be good news for LA.
<div class="quote_poster">Ford_11 Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">He wants to leave is West dosn't comeback, WOW, that isn't like kobe at all.</div>Yea, that is what I was thinking. I was totally surprized and didn't think this was Kobe's kind of thing. Usually Kobe is the guy who if his team is doing bad, he will just train hard and play hard to try to help them win. Even if no trades go down, its never a quiet off season for the Lakers.
Kobe doesn't want to be traded. He's just pushing for West, hard. He knows Mitch and co. are incompetent when it comes to making deals. He knows West would get him the pieces he needs to have around him.
Someone said that Jim Buss shot down trades for Artest, Boozer, Kidd, etc? Does Jim Buss also have ability to stop trades? Which would mean giving full authority to West would be firing Mitch and taking some authority from Buss away?
Buss has a lot of authority and say because the team is his in at most...5 years times. Jerry Buss has given his son a lot more say because he's grooming him to be team owner...which is scary. He's grooming Jeanie to be in charge of the PR relations.
I'm not sure why everyone is so anxious to get Jerry West. He single-handedly ruined the Grizzlies. They're running him out of town now that he's run their team into the ground. Look at the Grizzlies' success. It revolves around players who former GM Billy Knight brought in: Pau Gasol, Shane Battier, Jason Williams, etc. Then look at all of their failures, from Chucky Atkins to Robert Archibald, and they're all moves made under West.

His drafting has been terrible in Memphis, but I'm not sure if he should be held accountable for some of those bad trades. What I like about West is the fact he hand picked Kobe and knows what Kobe needs to win a title. Knowing and being able to execute is completely different, but at least West will have some blueprint in place.
Good for the Lakers if they get West, but I hope he dosn't get traded. To go out as the player who left his club who he won titles with becuase he wants a sub-par GM, is beyond me. If he leaves, then I might have a little less repsect for him, becuase to leave your team like that, over Jerry, is bad, IMO.
Aside from noticing Kobe's potential, what other brilliant moves has West made? I mean, you didn't have to be a rocket scientist to know that Shaq was worth having. just curious cause I don't know what he's done. I think RC Buford? or whatever his name is in San Antonio is probably the best GM ever. And also Brian Colangelo.
