The positive of Vecsey reporting this? Vecsey and Donnie Walsh are good friends and Vecsey's rumors on Indiana are usually fairly accurate. Donnie Walsh is also absolutely in love with Bynum, so I think he'd settle for just Bynum (no Odom) if we included our 19th pick, especially because Indy doesn't have a pick in this year's draft...which is deep. Something like Vlad, Bynum, Kwame, our 19, and Sasha for JO and a second rounder? Farmar Kobe/Evans Odom/Walton (resigned) Turiaf/Cook O'neal/Mihm There is plenty of pieces we can add through FA such as Blake, Williams, Maagloire, and also the possibility of a S&T with Walton.
<div class="quote_poster">lakersfan171 Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Were going to have to sign Mihm since it looks like are Centers are going to Indiana. Overpaying yeah Odom and Bynum already to much plus 1st rounder that seems a lot but seem okay since we get PG and JO.</div> I don't see how Odom and Bynum are too much. We're talking about an All-Star player here. To get talent, you must give talent. Odom will never be the player J. O'Neal is, and Bynum is too much of a question mark. Plus, the trade for J. O'Neal (assuming it happens), will keep Kobe happy, and in LA.

Only question is, if Vecsey is such good friends with Donnie Walsh, why would he leak the information? Don't team managements like keeping trade talks under the radar?

I don't know if that is 100% accurate. I've heard it mentioned a lot on CL and LG for a while now. Vecsey would leak it just to get the scoop out there. If he gets the word out on the street first, he gets the ego lift. Obviously, his falls rumors don't hurt him.
If Lakers trade Odom, Bynum and Kwame they will pretty much be locked into the same lineup for the next 3-4 years, IMO. They would have absolutely ZERO leverage to make any moves the next 3-4 years. They could deal their mid range 1st rounder and could sign players to the MLE and that is all. JO and Kobe would count for over 40 million in salary cap. You gotta keep either Odom or Kwame, IMO so that you keep a piece that could net you another good player later on this offseason or during the season.

Is this guy Donnie Walsh saying the truth or just BS. I hope we do get O'neal we need help and need to keep Kobe we can't afford to lose him.We already ran Shaq out of town we don't need Kobe ass leaving too.
Expect the Pacers to try to pawn off Dunleavy on you. They, as some of us Warriors fans once did, thought he was a smart, efficient player who was lethal from outside. The only problem is, he's NOT a good shooter, he's a bad defender, he's apathetic about winning, and as Don Nelson alluded to, he might be the dumbest "smart" player he's ever coached. Oh, and he's grossly overpaid.
<div class="quote_poster">michiganave17 Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Okay that changes things. But who do you trade to match the money? It would have to be Odem and Brown Unless they want mihm in a sign and trade. What in the heck would the lakers lineup look like besides Kobe and JO? threr would be no bench. How do the Pacers benifit? I dont get it</div> Well we still have the MLE and try to sign mo williams or bell...
If the Lakers acquire Jermaine O'Neal, I hope it doesn't cost us Bynum and Odom. The Lakers would have a consistent player in the post, but we'd still be short one impact player from making a run at the title. The Lakers have to get the deal done by holding onto Odom and dealing Kwame instead along with our pick and anyone else, but Turiaf for O'Neal. The other alternative is getting someone back from Indy, like a Jeff Foster or Marquise Daniels to keep some of our depth intact. As it stands with this deal Odom + Bynum + Our Pick is a tough call. <u>Projected Lakers Lineup</u> PG - Farmar SG - Kobe SF - Luke PF - O'Neal C - Mihm? This lineup just doesn't do it for me, the Lakers need to add another piece at the same time, otherwise why make a laterel move?

Is there still a way to accquire Artest? He could be the cheap missing piece.
<div class="quote_poster">The Legend Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Lets say this does happen. Is there still a way to accquire Artest? He could be the cheap missing piece.</div> Hard to say. Let's assume the Lakers can pull off a sign and trade with Luke going to the Kings for Artest. Which deal do you make first, and will that force the other team to backout? If the Lakers acquired Jermaine O'neal, I don't think Sacramento would want to further assist them in building a championship team. They could get something else for Artest, maybe not as good as Luke, but someone to justify keeping Artest away from LA. On the flipside, if the Lakers get Artest first, does Indiana think twice about shipping O'Neal over to the Lakers, or do they demand even more now, because O'Neal would be the major missing piece to make a title run? Personally, I'd rather roll the dice on Ron Artest for a season. You don't have to give up as much, and Artest is a lot more cap friendly. The trio of Kobe-Artest-Odom could make a serious run together. Plus you can develop Bynum for another season and you still have Kwame and possibly Mihm to back him up.
Peter Vecsey seems to have a lot of deal dones in Indiana i hope he is right and that is the reason Kobe may of back off the trade. Kobe just wants attention. Here are some deal Vecsey has made: Artest for Peja - Harrington to GS - Magloire to Milwaukee which NO denied and then made the deal.
Would everyone agree that if the lakers do aquire JO they still wont make it out of the first round? because I dont think they will. Look at it this way. For them to make it out the first round they would have to have home court. And I dont see dallas, suns, houston, spurs, utah, Denver losing any ground in the standings. then you have GS the clips and now portland on the move up. the west is just too power packed.
