Charlotte Bobcats managing partner Michael Jordan is considering old friend Rod Higgins for the vacant general manager's role.

Two sources familiar with the situation said Higgins is the preferred candidate and a deal is close at hand.

Higgins, 47, is the Golden State Warriors' GM, and the Bobcats got permission to interview him during the weekend.

Bobcats spokesman B.J. Evans confirmed discussions with Higgins are ongoing. Jordan is in Florida for this week's NBA pre-draft camp in suburban Orlando.</div>

Not huge news but gives us something to talk about before the draft. I don't think its much of a loss since Mullin seems to do most of the trade and draft work (Higgins didn't even know about the Indy trade until it was final). I've heard that Higgins was responsible for negotiating player contracts so maybe its a gain on our part though that rumor has no legit sources.

At least it gives Mully more GM friends around the league. He was buddies with the Indy front office guys (don't know if they like him much anymore though, lol) so maybe we can rob Charlotte next season in a similar deal.

Who will be named the GM now though? Nellie? Mitch Richmond? Some other random friend of Mullin (Chris Taft?)?

Hope it's not another friend of Mullin. It's not good policy to keep hiring your friends.

I'm all for just giving Mullin the title. It seemed pretty well known that he was making the decisions while Higgins was here. Then again, once Nelson retires, whenever that may be, I'd really like to keep him in our front office somewhere...

Too bad Tim Hardaway got in trouble for talking bad about gays, I bet we could have seen the return of Run TMC (only in the front office).

Now we got Run BMJS! (Baron, Monta, Jason, Stephen)

LAKE BUENA VISTA ? Former Heat point guard Tim Hardaway was among those issued an NBA credential during Thursday's workouts and scrimmages at the league's pre-draft camp.

The NBA had banned Hardaway from contact with league events after he offered anti-gay comments during a South Florida radio interview in February.

Hardaway was sent home by the league from All-Star Weekend in the wake of those remarks, with Commissioner David Stern saying, "It is inappropriate for him to be representing us given the disparity between his views and ours," but in ensuing media appearances, Stern noted the NBA was a forgiving league.

Hardaway, who chatted with former Warriors teammate Chris Mullin and other league executives Thursday, is attempting to find work on a team staff.</div>
