Would Jordan have won the defensive player award if Tim Duncan, Ben Wallace or Bruce Bowen in the league? I highly doubt it, alot of things have changed.

^ How about Hakeem, David Robinson, and a young Mutombo (for 91-98 years), has Bruce Bowen even won a DPOY? Artest has 1, Gary Payton got 1.

Wow, just wow. I wanna know how old you are to make a statement like that. Some of the best defensive players EVER played at Jordan's time. You're a joke. Man, Kobe homers really go the distance to hate on Jordan.

The teams of the 80's would destroy today's teams. The 2001 Lakers were a great team with Kobe and Shaq, but you talking about two superstars having to deal with a starting 5 of superstars who played for the Lakers or Celtics.

Just take a look at the recent Team USA Dream Teams. These players are fantastic one on one, but when you try to mesh them together on the same team they cannot compete. I realize some of the best players haven't been apart of it like the original Dream Team members, but the original Dream Teamers all new how to win as a unit and how to lock a team down defensively.

The Championship teams of the 80's would smoke any championship team in the past decade.

Why is there always a Kobe- Jordan comparison... Its so annyoing. Just stop the comparisions. Kobe is Kobe. Jordan is Jordan. You can't say who is better till Kobe retires.

unless Kobe gets 5 more MVPs, 3-6 more championships (and wins finals MVP everytime), and a bunch more scoring titles and all nba first teams, its not even a discussion - oh yea, and a Defensive POY

That's your opinion. But, clearly you have a bias against Jordan. Remove the ILoveKobeMoreThanWomen glasses and then post again.

ALSO, when Jordan won the award, Pippen was a rookie and hardly a factor on any end of the floor. Do your research. You clearly have 0 basketball knowledge would love Kobe even if he didn't play basketball. So, I understand why you make such idiotic comments.

My brother's wife is cousins with Kobe's wife! I love that man! Nah in all honestly Jordan was my favorite player when he was playing. And now Kobe is maybe im just drunk and takling outta my ass. I do like Jordan though infact I love him and would probably date him if I was a girl. In other words I think he is the best player ever but a bit tad over-rated.

Jordan. Duncan has won 3 rings and were considering him to be among the greatest power forwards of all-time. Just think Jordan won SIX. I believe it should've been eight. The fact that he played with 2 DYNASTYS is just amazing. Kobe is the closest thing to Jordan, but close is not better. Please don't use 81 as a factor...Jordan could of dropped 100 on the Raptors last season. You also could add that Bryant is 3-4 in finals while Mike is 6-6.

Come on, that just isn't fair. He had only 26 at half, and then some how exploded. It was great non the less.

I wanna know how this turned into Kobe-Jordan debate. It's todays PLAYERS match, not just Kobe and Jordan.

The 80's players would kill the teams now. Mainly becuase back then, everyone contributed. Everyone was great athletically and was a scorer or defender or both, no one had nothing going for them.

Given that Jordan's career is over, it's not really a fair argument to speculate on what he could've done. Jordan liked showing off as much as the next guy, I'm sure when he touched the 60s in points, he was really working for it. That'd be like me saying that if Kobe played for the same Bulls teams Jordan did, he'd have won 6 rings. It's impossible to say, because it's a scenario that can never happen.

Kobe is indeed as good if not better than Jordan talent-wise. He's still not as good a leader, but he'll eventually learn.

As far as players are concerned, the 80's squad would KILL today's era. Ur talkin about Isiah, Jordan, Bird, Magic, Kareem. Theres NO starting 5 today that could compete with that in NBA history. Also consider the game was ALOT more physical with ALOT less silly handcheck fouls. Which means if you put up 30 you actually earned it. Players today are far more hyped than ever. That allows the Vince Carters and Dirk Nowitki's to blossom. But we all know there not as good as the hype they get.

    80's wins!! No comparison..............

this is gonna turn into another pissing match, you got half the guys who are comparing their career stats, accomplishments, their legacies and thus dictating rather blindly that kobe sucks; you got guys who, for nostalgic reasons, think Jordan is the GOAT (and I can't blame you) and think it's sacriligous for anyone to be even begin to be compared to him; you got guys who've never seen jordan play outside of youtube videos who think kobe is better because he scored 81; you got guys who think kobe is a rapist and an egotistcal narcissist. really, all mj vs kobe threads just turn into a which era had better players threads and vice versa (or rather, it happens in cycles).

I will offer this though, I think kobe's a better pure shooter.

There were much better defenders in Jordan's time - Hakeem Olajuwon, Dikembe Murombo, Gary Payton, Joe Dumars, to name a few.

I'm sick and tired of peopling saying Kobe is better than Jordan. Look: Kobe is a great player, IMO, the best player in the NBA right now, but he will never be better than Michael Jordan. Michael Jordan played less than a decade ago, so not much has changed in the NBA. He is the single greatest player in NBA history, and he was voted #1 athlete of all time on ESPN's 50 greatest athletes (i personally think jordan should be #2 after Muhammed Ali). How can you possibly compare a Kobe Bryant, who was the second best player on those Lakers teams (obviously since Shaq won all the season and Finals MVPs that were given out during their reign) to the Michael Jordan, who is a 6 time Season MVP (or is it 5?), 6 Time Finals MVP, and a holder of 6 rings? There is no comparison, and this is coming from a guy who will defend Kobe against anyone else. Kobe is a great player and one of my favorites right now, but no one will ever be as good as Michael Jordan.

and who would you put over Hakeem, the greatest shot blocker of all time? the defense back then is just as good as now. the 90s werent that long ago
