Was planning on getting a new laptop before I go to university.
I was thinking of getting a Dell around ?350-?400 or hunting one on Ebay but was unsure how risky it is.
Got about ?500 to spend and don't want Vista, XP or Mac OS will do fine.
    Any suggestions? Thanks

Depending on if you just want to use this laptop for school work I suggest Mac. Take a look at outpost.com for prices to work with. They have the best deals on packaged laptops and PCs and though you probably won't purchase from there as it is a US based company, you can get a good general idea if you'd be overpaying elsewhere.

    For computers/laptops go to www.ubid.com

It's a lot better than ebay imo.

I've been told getting a laptop for university is a waste of money. This is at UCL though.
