    New York Post -
Isiah Thomas revealed yesterday he began constructing trade offers to the Lakers on Wednesday afternoon when he heard Kobe Bryant's emphatic trade demand.

The Knicks coach/president has backed off for now after Bryant changed his minds several times on Wednesday whether or not he wants to be traded.

"For the hour he was available [Wednesday], we all had a scenario and it didn't take us long to figure out how we would get him," Thomas said yesterday at the NBA pre-draft camp at the Milk House Arena at Walt Disney World. "I'm sure every GM in the league had a scenario on how to get him."

If the Lakers were not interested in Stephon Marbury, Thomas likely would have to string together a package of David Lee, Jamal Crawford, Channing Frye and Malik Rose. Thomas said Eddy Curry would not be part of any package for Bryant, his strongest indication of the Knicks center's untouchable status.

"We want to build around him . . . what he's doing and what he's going to be," Thomas said of Curry. "There aren't many big men in the league like him.

"You try to add that player to somebody; you try to put them together," Thomas added. "For the one hour [Bryant] was leaving, you try to put him together with someone he likes."

Thomas has not approached Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak and does not intend to do so unless there are more developments in the saga.</div> [READ]

Isiah is wasting time. If Kobe is soo concerned with winning, why would he agree to go to NY. No offense, but Kobe worsens his situation than bettering it.

If Kobe wants to win, there's no way he'd go to the Knicks. The team already has enough cap issues, and he'd probably make them worse with his long term deal, making it extremely difficult to bring in other pieces to help that team win. Plus, the team just flat out stinks. At least in LA, he can make the playoffs, even in a stacked Western Conference. If he goes to NY, his playoff chances go downhill, even though the East is typically much weaker.

LBJ2006MVP, please stop with Kobe to the Knicks. That is not going to happen, there is a bigger chance that Kobe would go play for the Hawks.

^^ I personally doubt that, just because New York is a city that people will actually pay attention and he will have a fan base.

If he went to Minnesota, Atlanta, and probably most cities, they will have a smaller fan base than the Knicks, just because the population of New York and surrounding area is huge.

All i can say is that IF kobe gets traded... it would be a smart move for both the Laker org and Kobe as a player if he chose the Knicks why?

    1. Eastern Team
    2. Same publicity as LA
    3. Knicks have a lot of YOUNG TALENT that the Lakers could acquire
    4. Kobe will still be left with talent

Oh and one more thing to ponder on... Phil is nearing the end of his contract and has not yet resigned... IF Kobe goes to the Knicks then this will only strengthen Phil's interest in joining NYK

^^ It's an Eastern team w/ a horrible salary cap problem, by the time it's probably fixed Kobe will want to move again or close to retirement.

Going to the Knicks would be a terrible thing for Kobe to do. The team is already in cap hell, and his massive contract wouldn't help. And in order for them to get him, they're going to have to trade away a ton of players just to match Kobe's contract. There's no way the Knicks can do that without either A) trading away a lot of players, or [IMG] trading away a combination of Marbury, Crawford and Curry. They're not going to do either, and the Lakers would be dumb to do it.

Can you blame Isiah? He's one of 29 GM's contacting the Lakers when Kobe was available.

I agree, one thing you can't fault Isiah for is trying. He makes it known he wants you and does a nice job of using the media to get his message to players.

If Kobe is made available, you can bet the house every GM is going to inquire what the price tag is going to be for Kobe.

The Knicks are probably a year early, because their big contracts don't have much value until next season. I don't the Lakers are willing to pay the luxury tax if they aren't going to make the playoffs. If the Lakers don't get anything done this offseason, or have another disappointing year, maybe this song and dance can come up again next summer, with the Knicks being serious suitors for Kobe.

Why are the Knicks still with Kobe they are way worst than the Lakers for know and they have no cap space to build around Kobe plus Kobe will make a terrible mistake my going to Knicks he will probably RUIN his career there.

I agree 100% with you. There is no way that Kobe would go to NY there is no championship contender in that team.KObe is going to stay in LA he wil never leave! [IMG]
