<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Unlike most every other college coach who made the leap to the NBA, and failed, Donovan actually did play in the league. Not very long. Only 44 games. But it was with the New York Knicks, a fishbowl for sure, giving him valuable insight and perspective as to what the NBA is all about and what he is getting into.

He knows that losing a game in college carries a different magnitude than losing one in the NBA. He also knows not to just surround himself with college cronies. In fact, Donovan said Friday that he's going to talk to his friend, veteran NBA coach Jeff Van Gundy, about joining him as an assistant.</div>

Damn dude that would be so sick. Billy Donovan and JVG. That would cost way too most money though.

I have to agree. I don't think VanGundy would come cheap. I could see them getting Stan Van Gundy as an assistant though.

if you can get Jeff on the cheap he'd be an excellent assistant....Orlando's D will improve under JVG.

I don't think money is really a factor. Our management is willing to spend as much as necessary to make this team a contender. I would love to get JVG to be an assistant under Donovan. That's like having two head coaches, one who has done great at the college level and one who has a lot of NBA experience. It's like having the best of both worlds if you think about it.

Honestly I was thinking that PJ Carlisimo might be a good option as an assistant if he was still interested in coming to Orlando, but I certainly would be happy to see either Van Gundy accept less money and become an assistant.
