As viewed from Los Angeles, a town that has been more egregiously indulgent of Kobe Bryant than any of its teen starlets, the Cavaliers post-game press conference came as a welcome event. After Cleveland's improbable victory over the Detroit Pistons, one would expect LeBron James at the podium. Less expected, however, was one Daniel "Boobie" Gibson, a second-round pick out of Texas.

At 21, Boobie's not much. He's neither big, nor, as his draft status suggests, did he arrive in Cleveland with much of a rep. In fact, he spent most of his rookie season — the regular portion of which concluded with averages of 16.5 minutes and 4.5 points — on the bench.

In other words, he's exactly the kind of scrub Kobe Bryant would whine about having to play with.

But there he was, the unlikely hero of an historic upset. His line in the boxscore included 31 points, 19 in the fourth quarter when Detroit and Rasheed Wallace imploded for the last time.

When asked to what he attributed his great good fortune, Gibson could not have been more clear.

"From day one," he said, "LeBron's been in my corner."

I found myself wondering if Kobe was watching. I sure hoped he was, as he had subjected me to a miserable couple of days during which he thought to air his demands. Said demands might be summarized thusly:

Trade me. I want to be a Laker. Trade me. I want to be a Laker. Trade me. I want to be a Laker for life.

Wow, could the Kobe hatred in the article be anymore evident. I didn't even make it through the article before I closed it cause I knew the direction it was going.

if you are going to say the article information is stupid or false, please give reasons. the fact that you stop reading it halfway through is telling - you are simply protecting your beliefs.

Kobe ALWAYS encourages his boys like Sasha, Smush, Lamar, Kwame, everyone! They just keep on letting him down... Le Bron was lucky coz D. Gibson showed up for him

This article is a joke. All it is Kobe hating... the only player that could be a hero for the Lakers as Gibbson was to the Cavs is someone like Jordan Farmar. I fully respect LeBron, but this article is just a joke and the writer is a kobe hater.

The current Lakers team would do better than the Cavs if they were in the Eastern conference. The article is a joke.

lol I was just about to post this.....

    edit

I agree with portions of the article and disagree with some of it also...the main point that I agree with is that Lebron is better at making those around him better...it's true that the west is stronger than the east, but the Pistons are a good team in either conference, and Lebron lead his troops to beat them....

The Cavs have a better team and Detroit have been playing poor throughout the playoffs, not just against the Cavs. LeBron done well though. We'll see how his team fairs up against the Spurs.

Detroit was actually playing pretty good the rest of the post season.....they swept Orlando and almost swept the bulls....the cavs D gave them problems....and Lebron also (but I think we know that).

I'll chime in. I read the entire article and the writer is entitled to his opinion, but his arguments are outdated and for the most part base-less. This is a hack job, and again Kobe Bryant is mentioned to generate attention.

Let's start with this first infamous quote by Chucky Atkins.

"Kobe's the GM of this team."

First off, it's coming from Chucky Atkins, who hasn't stuck with any team his entire career. He's an NBA journeymen, which a nice term used for NBA scrubs with attitude problems

Secondly, this quote is 3 years old. It was a quote given by Chucky after a disapointing season by the Lakers. They missed the playoffs that year, after completely falling apart in the second half. It was a comment delivered out of frustration. (Much like Kobe's recent comments were made out of frustration).

Fast forward to 2007, these two are good friends, and Chucky has made it known, "Kobe, that's my guy." He laughs at the comment he made back then.

Kobe is not the GM of the Laker franchise. If Kobe was the GM, Caron Butler would still be a Laker. He didn't even know Butler (his best friend on the team) was traded until after the fact.

If Kobe was GM, Boozer, Baron, Artest, and/or Jason Kidd would be Lakers.

*I will add to this when I get off work.

In playoffs it doesen't matter, you saw what happened between Dallas and Warriors, Dallas is better than Warriors in almost every category.
And Kobe is better player than LeBron, that's just the truth. Kobe played great all season long and LeBron now made a great game but that doesen't make him as good as Kobe. Kobe is just unbelieveble.

to be honest I keep going back and forth on who I think the best player in the league is...last year during the reg. season i thought Kobe...then the playoffs came and I said Lebron...then the finals came and I said wade.......it's really a toss up between those 3 if you ask me.........Duncan deserves to be mentioned here also (eventhough I'd take the other 3 over him at this stage in his career)

Doesn't matter. Lakers would beat the Cavs in 6 games if they were to meet in the playoffs.
