<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Throughout Stan Van Gundy's 18-month tenure as a Heat consultant, coach Pat Riley has mentioned Van Gundy's "value" to the franchise. Apparently, that value is tangible. With Van Gundy on the verge of replacing Billy Donovan as the replacement for deposed Magic coach Brian Hill, Riley, in his dual role as Heat president, stepped in with a compensation claim, with Van Gundy still under contract to the Heat through June 2008. When Riley said in April that Van Gundy had been granted clearance to pursue coaching positions, he did not mention compensation. Generally, assistant coaches are free to pursue higher-level positions without compensation. However, when Van Gundy stepped aside for Riley in December 2005, he already was working under a coaching contract.</div> Source: Sun-Sentinel
Didn't Riley steal his job, but make sure Stan didn't say that? It was probably because he wanted compensation if Stan got another job. Douchebag
stan van stepped down for family reaosns. he said that he simply couldnt take it all or something. riley allowed im to remain part of the organization there.

I heard that Riley pressured him to step down but told him to make it seem like it was because of family reasons so that Pat didn't look like the bad guy that stole the team. A lot of rumors started circulating that Riley just wanted another ring to add to his collection and he gave Stan the boot and returned to coaching when it was convenient for him.
Pat Riley is one smart son of a bitch. He knows the dire and desperate situation we're in right now. You don't want to go into the draft and training camp without a head coach. We're like that fat girl 1 week before the prom without a date--we'll go with just about anyone.
WTF. A draft pick and future considerations. I hope the future considerations isn't too much. A draft pick should be just fine.
Im glad we just got a coach. At least now we can prepare for free agency and the draft. SVG welcome to Orlando, god hoping he lasts the weekend...
That's ridiculous. First, Riley messes over SVG, then he messes up this organization. You can trade coaches because in the NFL Jon Gruden was traded to the Bucs from Oakland.
According to the Sun-Sentinel, Riley first demanded a future first round pick AND $1,000,000. Then he backed off and now is just demanding one of our second rounders and future considerations. Riley is a greedy ass.
