Do any of you guys have this at your schools? Here its where the kids going into grade 10, which would be entering a new school (high school here) get beat as a 'welcoming' to the school/highschool. Initiation can range from anything to getting belted on the wall to a simple blow to the stomach. Usually the only people who get initiated are the loud cocky guys, but sometimes other people get it because the grade 12's wanna have 'fun'. Surprisingly girls have initiation too, but I'm not sure what they get. Next year I'll be grade 10 and entering a new school, so I'm somewhat worried but since I'm not cocky or loud at school I'm not sure I'll get it. Anyways does anyone else have this at their school?
When I was in high school the new kids (Freshmen) were pelted with coins in the hallways between classes. Some of them were often booked. If you don't know what that means it is when a person slaps the books out of someone else's hands. Also the new kids would be made fun of, but not in a demeaning sort of way, just playfully calling them "stupid freshman" or stuff to that extent.
Dazed & Confused anyone? I find this stuff stupid and demeaning. It's why I'm against fraternities and sororities as well. It's ludicrous to think that someone is better than you just because they were born a year or two earlier.

I was so much bigger than most seniors going into high school, that I think they were scared to do it to me.
I don't know about "initiation", but in many schools in New York there's a "Freshman Friday" where some freshman get beat up.

Over here it's the first week of school for grade 9's. At my school people would use a Sharpie and write a big "9" on their forehead and do some stupid **** like putting honey all over them or toothpaste. Initiation only apply to those who knows people from higher grades.
Interesting to hear how it goes in other schools. I'm not that worried about it since I'm not loud or anything, and no one in grade 12 hates me or anything like that, I just thought I'd bring the topic up. Heres a video of initiation that happened at the school I'm going to next year Invalid Video Link
Entering grade 9, I was worried about initation and what not. I got to the school and realized that unless you know grade 10s, 11s, or 12s, or you talk too much, chances are you won't be touched. I never had a problem with initation, and as far as I know, I don't even know anyone who got initiated (atleast in my school). I do know kids from other schools that just got punched as initiation and all that, but really, it's nothing to be worried about. Now that I am in grade 12, I just have to say that, as grade 12s, I really don't give a sh*t about grade 9s unless they try to start something for no apperent reason. This whole "initiation" and acting tough business is usually only done by grade 10 students and sometimes, by grade 11s. Atleast, this is how it goes around my school. Usually though, people can't be bothered. Me and friends don't really care, we have other sh*t to deal with. Obviously, I'm not speaking for everyone. Depends on the indavidual, and it depends on the school and the grades of the students as well. Grade 10s are more likely to do the initiation thing than older grades, simply because they wanna feel like they are superior to the new students entering the school, a position they were in a year before. I had that same feeling in grade 10, although I didn't actually act it out.
I'm kinda getting less and less worried about it, but its still pretty scary. The school I'm going to has put up cameras outside, so that chances of it happening are getting slim but theres still a possibility. At the school I'm going to, 'the policy' for initiation is it only happens the first 2 weeks of school, you only get it once, and ONLY the grade 12's are allowed to do it. If grade 11's try it, then they get their asses kicked.

Wow, your school is really serious about it's hiearchy lol. Down here, the "policy" is actually only the first week. Either way, you shouldn't be that worried about it. If they are picking on random kids though, they'll pick on the smallest ones probably. If they don't initiate them, they'll verbally bully them. I don't know if grade 12s would do that, but bigger grade 10s and 11s certainly would.

Its ALWAYS the loud, cocky ones or the ones who know people in grade 12. If you're laid back and quiet the first week or so, chances are you won't get it. But most of them already know who they're going to initiate, its not like a random "i pick you" type thing.
