<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Kyle T)</div><div class='quotemain'>Obviously we don't know what team will be drafting first yet, but you've got to think that Brady Quinn has the inside track. Before this year, the last five #1 picks had been quarterbacks. I love Calvin Johnson, but receiver is so rarely a team's most pressing need that I have a hard time seeing him picked first overall. I agree earlier with the person who says that Adrian Peterson is a little overrated - it's not that he's not a good (or even great) back, but he's already got durability issues! Joe Thomas would have to have a really, really good year, but if the Texans end up picking first then I could see him going there. Still, right now I'd say Quinn has by far the best chance of being the top pick.</div> I actually thought before Michael Bush got hurt that if he had a good enough year and if Peterson struggled behind a weak OU line and lack of passing game, that Bush would have a legit shot at unseating Peterson for that #1 back. I really liked Michale Bush and thought he could of been everything LenDale White was made out to be but the injury really hurts him. Joe Thomas I really like as well being from Wisconsin. He's healthy now and that's most important. If a team like Houston gets the top pick then as a LT he could realistically go #1 overall. I think he has a good chance at being a better prospect than D'Brickashaw Ferguson (even though I know that's your boy) but Thomas has great size and should put up some nice workout numbers. As long as he stays healthy I think he's a lock to go top 5.

I'm sure Detroit will be tempted to take him. </div> Thats one of the 2 scenarios that I can envision where this guy would suck in the league....one is a nasty injury, the other is being drafted my Matt Millen....</div> At least, he has a chance of recovering from the injury.
I think its going to be Brady Quinn. He can help any team. And most of the teams i see getting the first 3 picks in the draft need a QB.

Mainly because the OL, WR, and defense is just so poor. In that case, the Niners would either look to trade the pick, which is a very likely scenario is Quinn is rated as the sure fire #1 pick in the draft, or they will have to draft Peterson, Joe Thomas, or Calvin Johnson.

This guy might be a better prospect coming out than Fitzgerald and Fitzgerald had only 2 years of college football and was the #3 pick in the Draft. If he does run the 4.4, 40 like advertised, I would love for Green Bay to get him. Jennings and Johnson would at least give Rodgers a chance to suceed in the NFL.

Personally, I think that Dwayne Jarrett is on the same level as Johnson. I don't see a dropoff from Johnson to Jarrett at all. One advantage Jarrett has is more experience in a pro style offense. I understand that Johnson hasn't had the best QBs in the country throwing to him, but Jarrett is a gifted athlete with size, speed, and jumping ability right on par with Johnson.

I think there is a drop off and I look at maybe like Larry Fitzgerald as a prospect to Roy or Reggie Williams as a prospect. Jarrett is 6'5" and only 200 so there are going to be questions on whether he can go through the middle. Johnson at 235 you know can go through the middle and you know this guy is tough and going to get you the YAC as well. I still like Jarrett and consider him a top 10 pick. I think he'll be everything Mike Willimas was hyped up to be (unless he goes to the Lions) In the end though I think Johnson is a better prospect. It's a little early to decide though. A lot of things will happen between now and April 2007. I remember last year "Kiwi" was rated as a top 5 pick and ended up going late round 1.
I don't believe the Niners will be obtaining that 1st overall pick. They will probably end up with the 7th or 8th or 9th pick. I believe the number one pick should and likely will be Brady Quinn. Titans have a shot as the 1st pick next year but in that case I think they would be forced to trade down. The Packers would be the next team in line and I think Quinn would be a good choice.Aaron Rogers isn't gonna be a good NFL QB and they need a real QB to step in and play and build up a new team!Quinn is gonna be a greta NFL QB.

It really depends on who gets the #1 pick, I think the best player in the draft will be Calvin Johnson and most teams could use a big play WR like him. The Raiders have the crash course to be the #1 pick and I don't think Brady Quinn would be the right pick, move out of the #1 slot and draft Joe Thomas from Wisconsin, a big offensive tackle to pair with Robert Gallery. The line blows. A team like SF could use some help on defense but adding Calvin would be great, giving them Gore, CJ, Vernon, and Bryant all to help out young Alex Smith.
eeehhh...1st round wide receivers are not always a good idea - more busts there than any other position IMO.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (vikingfan)</div><div class='quotemain'>eeehhh...1st round wide receivers are not always a good idea - more busts there than any other position IMO.</div> Actually DL gets that dreaded distinction. WR surprisingly has been a position that teams have had trouble getting great production from in the player's first couple of years. There were 6 taken in the 1st round of the 2005 draft. None of them broke out and made you say wow....Braylon Edwards might have had a chance, but was injured early. Roddy White was probably the most impressive and he could have been great if he had a more accurate QB. There were 7 WRs taken in the 1st round in 2004. Larry Fitzgerald has led the Cardinals in receiving since his rookie year so he definitely is an exception. But after him? Roy Williams has been hurt all the time...Reggie Williams has been invisible. Lee Evans was a nice addition for the Bills and is their number 1 option now. Michael Clayton had 1100 yards receiving his rookie year, but an injury slowed him down last season. So it would appear that the 2004 draft put out some very good WRs in the 1st round although there was the Williams problems and not to mention Rashaun Woods. How about Charles Rogers in 2003? Andre Johnson has shown promise, but he's stuck on a team where the QB can't get rid of the ball. Bryant Johnson has been a nice 3rd WR for the Cards, but is that what you want out of a 1st round pick? 2002 brings you Ashley Lelie and Donte Stallworth....Two guys that the teams who drafted them gladly gave up this season. Javon Walker was also part of this draft and it took him a season and a half to start breaking out. It goes on and on, year after year. WRs taken high just haven't contributed. David Terrell, Koren Robinson, Rod Gardner, and Freddie Mitchell in 2001. Peter Warrick, Travis Taylor, Sylvestor Morris and R. Jay Soward in 2000. It has been 10 years since a WR was taken with the 1st pick in the draft and that was Keyshawn Johnson. Looking back.....was he really worth the #1 pick? Now I know that Calvin has more athletic abilities than Keyshawn and the two don't really compare. Calvin is a terrific athlete, but I still think that Jarrett is the better receiver. That's a different topic than the one at hand though. I personally am not a fan of taking a WR first in next year's draft at this point. There are a couple reasons for this. 1) If a team needs a QB or even an OT, which I think most teams that will be contending for the 1st pick will need, then Quinn or Joe Thomas are the best picks. 2) This draft is loaded with talented receivers. If Jarrett comes out then he'll compete with Johnson as the top WR in the draft. Jason Hill, Samardzija, Ted Ginn (whose hands and route running impressed me against Texas), and Sidney Rice will all come into factor as well. There will be very good WRs in the 2nd round even like Joel Filani or Courtney Taylor. Johnson will probably be the best athlete in the draft just like Vernon Davis was this past year. That will warrant him a high top 5 or 10 pick for sure, but I just can't see him being the top pick. I really hope that the passing game straightens out at Ga. Tech as well so that his yearly production can pick up some.
