Why are all middle easterners afraid of dogs? I'm walking in my apartment building and soon as one of them sees my dog, they practically sh*t in their pants. They back up to the nearest wall and wait till I pass. I snicker really loud.

Not to mention my dog isn't much bigger than an adult cat.

Jordan Brand's All-Star Weekend Events Include Boys and Girls Club Gymnasium Dedication, Community Events, and Exclusive House of XX3 Featuring Top Athletes and Celebrities

BEAVERTON, Ore. — Jordan Brand tips off the 2008 All-Star Weekend in New Orleans with an impressive and celebratory lineup of events. Beginning with the donation for a Jordan Brand basketball gymnasium at the Slidell Boys and Girls Club, Jordan Brand will also play host to community and celebrity events in honor of the launch of the AIR JORDAN XX3. Jordan Brand will conclude the weekend with four talented Team Jordan athletes taking court in the New Orleans Arena for the 2008 All-Star Game on Sunday, February 17.

"The timeless spirit that lives in New Orleans inspired Jordan Brand to create events and celebrations that speak to the courage found in the city and its people," says Garry Cook, president of Jordan Brand. "Jordan Brand and Team Jordan athletes join together at All-Star to pay tribute and rebuild, remember, and respect the people and the great city of New Orleans."

The full schedule of Jordan Brand festivities begins on February 14 with the dedication of a new Slidell Boys and Girls Club Jordan Brand basketball gymnasium. Community members and Team Jordan athletes will be on hand for the donation of $500,000 to build the athletic facility. Because several Team Jordan athletes were once Boys and Girls club members, the dedication is a personal observance, honoring both organizations that look to help children and youth become the best people possible, both on and off the court.

Keeping in tradition of being one of the most coveted parties to attend during All-Star weekend, on February 15, Jordan Brand will redefine class and sophistication with the House of XX3, an exclusive invitation-only red carpet classic New Orleans-themed event. Highlighted by a special appearance by Michael Jordan, Team Jordan athletes, celebrities and featuring a musical performance by DJ Beverly Bond, the House of XX3 is poised to be the most appreciated and talked-about All-Star Weekend party.

As part of the Jordan Brand annual All-Star rituals, the AIR JORDAN will once again launch the Saturday of All-Star Weekend. Officially available in stores on February 16, the AIR JORDAN XX3 is worthy of being called the "Greatest Basketball Shoe Ever." The AIR JORDAN XX3 is the first basketball shoe for Nike to embrace the Nike Considered design ethos, where details in the development and design of the shoe seek to reduce waste and allow for the use of environmentally preferred materials.

For an added celebration of the launch of the AIR JORDAN XX3, BET's "106 and Park" hosts Rocsi and Terrence J will emcee a special community event at the Oakwood Center Mall in in Gretna, LA on February 17. This all-age, consumer event will provide guests with an additional opportunity to get their hands on the hottest sneaker in the industry over music provided by DJ Jaycee, entertainment, special activities, and exclusive shopping opportunities.

Jordan Brand also proudly recognizes and congratulates their outstanding Team Jordan athletes participating in the All-Star game, including Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, Joe Johnson, and Richard "Rip" Hamilton, for their dedication and athletic skill as they represent their respected teams for the East and West.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>One night more than 15 years ago, Magic Johnson watched with amusement as a country western band tried to entertain the year's best NBA players at the only All-Star party of the weekend.

Sensing a strong disinterest throughout the group, the former Los Angeles Lakers star decided that night, at the NBA's annual All-Star celebration, to transform the nature of the weekend's atmosphere. There would be private parties, better-suited entertainment and no more uneventful stays in a designated hotel.

"I said, 'Uh-oh, this has got to change,' " said Johnson, who was selected to participate in 12 NBA All-Star Games from 1980 to 1992.

The results of Johnson's experience will be on display in New Orleans this week, as NBA stars and thousands of their friends and fans gather for what has become a cultural celebration. Celebrities, entertainers and NBA players who were not selected to be All-Stars will fly in for the hottest parties and charity events of the year.

Some of them might even forget the reason why the NBA touched down in New Orleans in the first place -- for Sunday's All-Star Game at the New Orleans Arena.

"It has become the ultimate celebration of the basketball world," said Bill Walton, a former NBA player with two All-Star Game selections. "Everyone is involved."

Johnson has one of the most anticipated events of All-Star Weekend, an annual celebrity pool tournament that he hosts with Miami Heat center Alonzo Mourning. This year's version of "Zo and Magic's 8-Ball Challenge" will be Thursday night at the Sugar Mill, and it is expected to feature a guest list of about 1,000 people who received private invitations.

In recent years, many of the weekend's parties have become fundraising events benefiting the hosts' charities. A spokeswoman for the 8-Ball Challenge said Johnson and Mourning have a goal of raising $500,000 at the event, which will benefit Alonzo Mourning Charities and the Magic Johnson Foundation.

Mourning, a four-time All-Star who was not selected to play in this year's game, said a portion of the proceeds will help fund athletic programs and supply computers at West Jefferson High School.

"I don't really want people to think it's a party," Mourning said. "It's a charity event."
