after his first two pre-season games Tarvaris Jackson has been all the talk in minnesota for the starting qb job next year. the 2nd round pick from alabama state is 16 for 24 but looks really good out on the field.

I think he needs about 2 years to becoming a good starting QB in the league. Having Brad Johnson in front of him will help his progression. He has all the intangibles, good speed, great arm, good accuracy. He doesnt force many balls which you can see in his college stats.

He just needs the ability to read complex defenses.

I think him and Matt Cassell in a two years will be really good starting QBs in the NFL.

Tavaris Jackson really impressed while watching him during the Oak/Minny game earlier this month.

Since my best friend is a Vikes fan I've seen the games and gotta admit he's looked pretty good but also hasn't faced top defences. He'll have to learn to not just run or he;ll never live threw a season especially if he takes a few more elbows to the head. Good to see guys from the smaller schools getting a shot

I didn't see the game the other night, but my impression is that he ran with the first stringers for a series - and I would consider Pittsburgh to be a top defense.

He is looking really good, and he might be thrown into the starting roll sooner than anyone really wants. McMahon looks terrible (are we really surprised at this?), and I still don't have confidence that Johnson will stay vertical all season long.

What I liked about the last game he played in is that he showed he can pass the ball. After watching him play against the Raiders, I was afraid he was going to be a run-first type of QB (ala Ron Mexico). But his line against Pittsburgh is quite nice.

The one complaint about him? He's too slow making decisions. Not that this is a surprise since he is a rookie, but you can sense a slight amount of hesitation which will kill him at the top levels of the league.
