It's weird, I dunno why, but I no longer have the same feeling towards rap music as I have had in the past. I used to love rap, I loved listening to guys like Nas, Snoop Dogg (his earlier stuff), Em, and the entire Wu-Tang-Clan family, although most noticibly GZA and Raekwon. But recently, it's all starting to bore me. I have no idea why, but I no longer like this genre as I once did. With that being said, I'm starting to look elsewhere. I'm listening to more R&B material than I used to (I love Tyrese!), and I'm starting to get into rock music as well. I already have a couple of bands I like listening to (although they may be considered embarrassing to more "experienced" listeners), and it's fun going around listening to other artists because I used to never really give a damn for this genre of music. As I was looking through Dave Matthews, which VC recommended me, I stumbled across the RHCP. I've just finished downloading their Greatest Hits abum, (I know, not the best way to get the most out of artists, but it's a start) and I can't wait to listen to it. This stuff is pretty exciting. It's like I'm exploring a new world

Is that how you felt when Kool-Aid first hit your virgin tongue? When you popped your Kool-Aid cherry with that cherry flavored sip of heaven?

Voodoo, I've also moved a bit away from rap lately, although my searches have brought me closer to the jazz-sampled rap. This brought me on to instrumentals, and eventually to people who have gotten closer to that threshold even more while still holding on to the structure that makes hip-hop, hip-hop. Damu the Fudgemunk, and Dela are producers that have really done it for me. Also, Nets fans are dumb. No exceptions. edit: and will never read this mwa ha ha ha haaaaaaaa

Damn, Brian! I didn't even think of RHCP when you mentioned bands like Maroon 5 and Goo Goo Dolls, but I guess I didn't consider you hadn't really listened to any rock music. RHCP's great though because they've got so many different styles. Their early stuff is like a fusion of funk and punk rock, their late 80's/early 90's stuff is a little more straightforward rock but still with a heavy funk influence and a hint of jazz, and their new era stuff is melodic, minimalistic, and in my opinion, their best yet (except for their latest album, which I'm not that big on). GMJigga, glad to hear you're getting into new music as well. Rap, rock, etc. - music is music, and once you realize rap's not the mainstream 50 cent you see on tv, and rock's not the lame emo music you hear on the radio or the headbanging rip-your-head off metal some people think it is, then it opens a whole new world for ya. As for rap, it's got it's roots in soul, funk, etc. There's the Isley Brothers, Curtis Mayfield, Parliament Funkadelic, or my favorite, the funk-inspired RHCP era (video's lame but music's good). You know though, the thing is, I don't know what your tastes are. I'm not the best at rec'ing music always. It's my life and passion almost as much as basketball, and I know a lot about it, all types, but I always seem to be real hit-or-miss with rec's. Do either of you have AIM btw? I've talked to you for a while on JBB and Jigga on s2 and have never talked to either of ya on AIM.

I put it as my third favorite of all time by them (1. Blood Sugar Sex Magik, 2. Californication)
Yup. Here's a bit of how the progression is going: Only the first one has lyrics. The rest are purely instrumentals

This one blows my mind

Those above three were by the French producer Dela. Not to mention an emphasis on repetition, but with phases of removed percussion/melody. Hip Hop songs were built to compliment lyricists, a natural progression from the early jazz doo-wop singers. However if you remove them from the equation you realize that hip-hop can stand on its own, and is a distinct musical genre but at the same time borrows so much from its parent style. My parents have actually caught on to what I'm listening to, and being devote Jazz enthusiasts themselves, have asked me to make mix cd's that feature this music. I'm on volume 3. For any of you guys that liked what you heard... Man it's late and no one is home and the chick I had over left lmao. But when she was here, it was awesome.

I forgot about the AP tests. How do we find out what we got?
Just got my mail today. Got a 5 on Calc I and a 4 Physics B. I have no idea how I pulled a 4 on that Physics exam. I was expecting a 2, maybe a 3 if I was lucky. I'm not complaining though.
Oh nice, Physics B is tough. I didn't take Ap Calc in Highschool but that ended up being better for me since when I took it at my university, my course grade was higher than my GPA (A-). :]
I honestly have no idea how I got that 4 on the Physics one. I stopped paying attention the last month of the year in that class and half-assed about 75% of the free response questions on the actual exam. And I'm contemplating taking Calc I again this year (if they let me) even though I have the credits for the class now. It's not like I remember most of the stuff now anyway, so taking it again to refresh my memory wouldn't hurt. And since I excel at it, it might help keep my GPA up in my first semester of college, kind of like what happened to you. I don't want to screw myself taking hard classes now because I need a 3.3 to get into the RU business school after my soph year. I've held a steady 3.9-4.0 all through high school, but I don't want to risk anything.
You've had a solid 4.0 all throughout HS? What the hell were your test scores? If I had a 4.0, I'd be going to Harvard, not Rutgers (no offense).
Well, my school gives out number grades, not letter grades, and my overall GPA for all 4 years was a 94.3-ish. So, on most scales, as far as I know, a 94 = A = 3.9-ish, no? It's not like I was getting perfect scores in all my classes. Just solid A's. One thing to note though is that the honors/AP classes I took were weighted, so without the weight for those, my overall average would probably be in the 92-ish, which is more like a 3.7-3.8 I guess. The guys who get into the Harvard's and Princeton's have 4.3's+. And my SAT scores were 700 Math, 650 Critical Reading, 670 Writing. And fwiw, I did apply to an Ivy League (Cornell) and was rejected. It probably didn't help that two other kids from my school applied and both got accepted and are going. I also applied to Northwestern (dream school) but was rejected. Got into University of Michigan and would probably be going if it weren't so far away. The tuition is also double what Rutgers is and I wouldn't be getting anywhere near double the education, so it wasn't really worth it.
So it was about a four-point weighted. Alright, I gotcha. I know that drill. I went to a school where an A+ in an AP class was worth 6.3 points towards your GPA. I remember my senior year I made about a C average, but I had so many AP's that it came out to be just under a 4.0. The shitty thing though is that most colleges took my GPA and unweighted it. You probably made the right decision about UM. I went there for a half second a year ago and really didn't like it. It's cold, and it seems like everyone's from Michigan or somewhere in the midwest. I like going to a school now where everyone's from some place different. Plus, the girls at Michigan were ugly, or at least uglier than what I see down South. There are some fuckin hot schools down South though. I've never seen more beautiful women in an enclosed area than all the times growing up I'd go down to Ole Miss on the weekends. BTW - Hooters sucks. The wings are shit, and while the waitresses can be hot, if that's why you're going, then just cut to the chase and go to a damn strip club.
Wow have to agree with VC, if you buy into that strip club shit just go there instead of Hooters. I don't enjoy either, but it is a free country I think... I don't understand why anyone would have a date there.
QUOTE (pegs @ Jul 19 2008, 07:31 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

<strike>King</strike> Peasant Shake is such a Canadian lawlz roflcopter
Lol too easy, and the name fits too since Shake is a Real World XX fan (some kid named Greg called the other cast members that on various occasions ). I agree, Hooters does suck. I don't think I'll ever go there again.. Although, I did like their wings. There are better, but I thought they were pretty good.
Craig was awesome HK! I loved that dude. Oh and the last episode fight was nuts. Dave got thrown and Will and Bri just went at with some dudes. Next one is in Brooklynnnnnnnnnnnn!
