<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">NEW YORK (AP) -- Game 2 of the NBA finals took a hit in the TV ratings, and the series finale of "The Sopranos" was the prime suspect.

The San Antonio Spurs' 103-92 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday night drew a 6.9 overnight rating on ABC, down 24 percent from last year's 9.1 for Game 2 between the Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat. Ratings for "The Sopranos" finale on HBO were not immediately available.

Overnight ratings measure the 55 largest television markets in the United States, and each overnight rating point represents about 735,000 households.

    National ratings were expected Tuesday.</div>

San Antonio Spurs are for regular fans, not a fun team to watch. Once they reached the finals you knew that there was not going to be alot of viewers.

Then after game 1, the San Antonio Spurs absolutely slaughtered the Cavaliers and LeBron got completely shut down. This is really what the reason for the loss of viewers is. I'm sure The Soprano's also dominated hte viewers as well.

If game 3's ratings go up, I doubt it will be by alot after another blow out in San Antonio.

No surprise, especially with the Sopranos series finale.

Well, maybe the ratings would go up if Lebron or the Cavs at least make this series somewhat interesting. This Finals is even more boring than the Spurs/Pistons

Agreed. A lot of people were dreading a Spurs/Pistons series, but is this any better? I'd much rather watch a great fundamentally sound basketball game than a basketball clinic.

You know if the NBA made it a one game series, they wouldnt have to worry about this bullshit.

Now you might disagree, but look the NBA Finals is supposed to be the best 2 teams in the league and they shouldnt get second chances to come back in a 7 game series. Seriously David Stern, the most well run Sporting Organizations and most watched Is the NCAA March Madness and the NFL Superbowl. Both are one and done systems that should migrate into the NBA once and for all.

I definitely agree with you. I am tired of this 7 game series crap. They take too much time. They keep you bored until one team can take it all. They should make this one game. Whoever wins, wins. Finished. I am tired of friggin 7 games.

The NFL season is 16 games and the NCAA season is like 30 games. It makes no sense that a 82 game season comes down to one single game.

I guarantee you that if the NFL or the NCAA season were 80 something games, it would not be a one game championship game.

See, I always thought of this. You have one chance, to win it all, you lose you go home, you win you go on.

However, the NCAA has <font color=""blue""><strike>32</strike> 64</font> teams (Sorry if the number is wrong) So it makes for alot of ball, but the NBA has 16 teams, makes for less ball, makes for less TV time, so less money. I think if anything, 5 game series is better for the First 3 rounds, then 7 game, because this is only happening becuase no one likes the Spurs that much, and the Cavs are to inconsistent, with no true PG and an "All-Star" who isn't playing like one because of great D.

If it where a Bulls-Warriors or a Raptors-Suns or even Cavs-Suns, it would be better, because I think, run and gun, people like more then half-court sets.

1 game, while good in the NFL, I don't think would work in the NBA, because the NFL is a way bigger market then the NBA, they have a way better commish, and no one complains in the NFL like in the NBA.

The whole reason why David Stern has the 7 game series rule is to prevent upsets, or at least that's what he says. If it's just one game, any team can win at any given moment, so even more unworthy teams will be advancing to the Finals because of "luck." Maybe we should just make it best of 5

Exactly what if the star player happened to be injured that game? This would raise even more controversy. And if the championship is only to be 1 game then the other 3 rounds are to be 1 game. Then that would shorten the season dramatically. I'd like basketball to be extended as much as possible. Who cares about the ratings, us fans shouldn't be worrying about that ****.

No player, no matter how great, can make a Spurs series not boring.

Dude who cares if a player is injured or whatnot. Its sports. It happens. I mean you dont ever hear the NFL or the NCAA complain about it. I mean its ridiculous. Not to mention, they space these games out so far apart. Did anyone else feel liek it was an eternity from the Eastern conference finals to Game 1 of the Finals?? Fans dont care if they miss games on tv anymore. They'll just watch highlights the next morning on sportcenter and they'll just wait till next week to watch a game. Because the only games most fans will watch is the <u>DECIDING GAME</u>. the game 4's,5's,6's, and more importantly game 7's. I mean lets be honest, i bet as diehard of fans we are here at JBB i bet not all of us even watched the whole game last night.

So once again Stern needs to shorten it a 1 game series. If hes not careful and make some major changes, The NBA will go down the similar path of the NHL. Just dont say i didnt tell you so. [IMG]

With the vast seperation in talent between the Eastern and Western Conference it is no surprise that the NBA finals dont attract viewers. With the first round Golden State upset and the weak East, the Finals this year were San Antonio vs. Pheonix. San Antonio won 4-2, thus giving them the clear path to a ring.

Look at those ratings if you want to see what a finals would look like if there was no seperation between East/West.

1 game series would be very very stupid in my opinion. 7 is fine. Maybe 5 in the 1st and 2nd rounds. Ford explained it well.

I think I predicted a ridiculous sweep of the Cavs by the Spurs if they made it to the Finals instead of Detroit somewhere in the forum.

I agree, 7 games are fine. If a team doesn't belong they will be eliminated in 4 games.

I also agree the first two rounds should go back to being a 5 game series. The games a lot more intense and exciting when there's a strong chance of an upset early in the playoffs.

What's really killed the playoffs this year are the delays between games. The NBA could have ran with all the momentum from Cleveland and the Detroit series. Instead we had to wait 4 or 5 days before the Finals even started.
