The NBA could have ran with all the momentum from Cleveland and the Detroit series. Instead we had to wait 4 or 5 days before the Finals even started.</div>

yeah thats what i said. i completely agree on that point. It just seemed like forever for the Finals to start.

Not saying you didn't, but simply stating that the Spurs are not the reason the finals are getting low ratings, but rather the margin of victory. If these games were closely contested I guarantee the ratings would be through the roof.

Well the Sopranos finale is obviously big, can't really do much about that, and of course that was going to cause a ratings hit no matter who the teams were. Also a lot of people now like to TiVo sports events, and the ratings boxes don't add those people to the ones watching the game. Anyways, SA isn't a huge draw, and Cleveland even with Lebron really isn't helping with their ugly mainly one dimensional way of playing.

<div class="quote_poster">The Walrus Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Dude who cares if a player is injured or whatnot. Its sports. It happens. I mean you dont ever hear the NFL or the NCAA complain about it. I mean its ridiculous. Not to mention, they space these games out so far apart. Did anyone else feel liek it was an eternity from the Eastern conference finals to Game 1 of the Finals?? Fans dont care if they miss games on tv anymore. They'll just watch highlights the next morning on sportcenter and they'll just wait till next week to watch a game. Because the only games most fans will watch is the <u>DECIDING GAME</u>. the game 4's,5's,6's, and more importantly game 7's. I mean lets be honest, i bet as diehard of fans we are here at JBB i bet not all of us even watched the whole game last night.

So once again Stern needs to shorten it a 1 game series. If hes not careful and make some major changes, The NBA will go down the similar path of the NHL. Just dont say i didnt tell you so. [IMG]</div>
Just a little reminder that the finals date was set before the playoffs began. Like I said I don't want the season to be shortened. To have the playoffs be played in 4 games would be ****ing rediculous. Not to mention it would be unfair for the 8th seed never to play a home game. We don't base our league on what other leagues do. Why the **** would we play 82 games and then have 4 games decide whos the winner? It takes more for a team to win a best of 7 then to win 1 game. Coaches having to make adjustments and changes to fix what went wrong the previous game. You know how many series there are when one team wins the first game and then drop the next four? Just because we have one series that is boring and you want to make a dramatic change to the playoff format. Lets focus on different issues like the DRAFT LOTTERY. Or maybe the PLAYOFF SEEDING. Maybe they could change the finals to a 2-2-1-1-1 Like its suppose to be. If there going to change to single elimination they better make the season last 41 games because nobody wants to wait that long and have the playoffs done in a week. I think the idea is absolutely bogus.

How would 1 game series playoffs be ridiculous though? Everybody just keeps saying no because of underdog situations and amount of games in the NBA regular season. If thats the problem, shorten the Schedule, I mean the NBA has done it before. Now i know you guys would hate to see an NBA season shortened in anyway possible, but I'm looking at this from a business prespective. If you want more viewers, make it a one chance oppurnity for the fans to watch and your ratings will skyrocket. The NFL season is shorter, and their playoff dont even have 16 teams in them! They have 12 and you work hard for your home field advantage. And it works beautifully. The NCAA is shorter, has one tournament with single elimination and it works magnificently, with plenty of viewers. <font color=""Red"">Don't believe me? Look at the sports with the least of viewers: The NHL,MLB,and NBA. All are way to long of regular seasons and with ridculous playoff schemes.</font>
Now as for the Underdog situation, I just don't understand why you guys say you hate the idea. Yet love when Golden State triumps over the number one team in the NBA. Everyone, including non diehard fans LOVE rooting for the underdog. When an NCAA march madness game comes on, and your not really a fan of either team who do you root for? The Underdog! America loves the underdog, and it's simply a part of American Culture that goes back far in history.

Saying "Who cares what other leagues do" would be an ignorant thing to say. Especially in the case when their ideas... are idk, working!

I don't know, if I'm the only one that thinks this I'll shutup. But it just seems like that all the things I've said would drastically help viewer ratings.

I agree with you on the season needing to be shortened. Having these many games, makes each one less meaningful. You can go on a 15 game losing streak, and still turn the year around and qualify for the playoffs. This is why the NFL is superior to other sports. They only play once a week, and each game has an impact on where you're going to finish. Introducing the NFL Flex scheduling was brilliant.

The NBA also needs to contract the amount of teams they have. I don't want to bash the Cavs, but they are essentially a one trick pony. A one man team should not be able to make it into the NBA Finals.

What you're seeing in the league now are one man teams capable of getting their watered down rosters into the post season. There's a lot of ugly basketball being played, because teams are forced to use cheap talent to round out a roster.

I'd like to see the league cut between 2 to 4 franchises. Spread those players around the other rosters and weed out players who really don't belong in the NBA.

This will in-turn strengthen the NBADL and the sport gets one step closer to developing a real minor league system teams can pool from.

David Stern has lost touch with his audience. There's no innovation with the league anymore.

As far as your suggestion for just 1 game Finals. It's too radical for my liking. I'd prefer the league make the regular season games more meaningful by reducing the schedule, and more importantly reducing the amount of teams.

An NBA Finals with 3 superstars on each team would draw the viewership because there would be high level basketball being played each step of the way.
