Just saw that Matt Bonner will be a RFA this summer.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Jun 13 - Matt Bonner will be a restricted free agent in the summer, meaning he can negotiate with another club and the Spurs would have the right to match the offer.

"I think the Spurs would like to have me back, but you never know what's going to happen," Bonner said.

While his contributions have been limited this season, the sharp-shooting forward should be able to put two sure-fire conversation starters on his r?sum? after the series is over: After three NBA seasons, he has a career mark of 41.3 per cent from behind the three-point line and in all likelihood will be able to call himself an NBA champion.</div>

A 6-10 forward who can shoot. He's not a typical big man but is career over 40% from downtown. We could probably get him on the cheap. A good back-up at PF to speard the D. Just one of many ideas to keep on the summer radar, I guess.

Matt Bonner, while being a good 3 point shooter, is not a good defender. He isn't great without the ball, and is very streaky.

I don't know... I'm still reluctant about taking on another F in the form of a Dun or Murph type athlete. Where are the David Lee's and Anderson Varajao's or Andres Nocioni's? Those are forwards that are definitely more helpful, athletic, and tougher on D or scoring around the basket. Bonner is very nice in a limited role, but we need depth and guys who can affect the offense more on their own. Set shooters will just stand around on us and force shots they shouldn't take if they can't pass it to somebody who can create for them. Bonner to me is a set shooter. We need more playmaking, shoot off the dribble or passing type guys IMO. But we also need them to rebound, block some shots, and score in the low post.

No, I know, he's not a key pick-up, but if he's just out there floating around, it might be a nice pick-up, at least an invite to camp, because he can stretch the D and open the lane for Baron.

This was just a small shot, though, not a difference maker. We need an athletic, powerful, rebounding PF to share the load. Obviously Bonner isn't that. But he could be another helpful piece in a limited role. At least invite him to camp (or will he get a good deal somewhere?)
