Billy likes Hawes & Something I found interesting..

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">PHILADELPHIA ? Spencer Hawes worked out Wednesday for the 76ers, but theirs weren?t the only eyes looking at him from the University of Washington.

Because Hawes, who just completed his freshman year, hasn?t hired an agent and may go back to school, he?s trying to limit the number of trips he takes. To that end, his camp asked if the Celtics could come watch this workout. President Billy King allowed it, and so Danny Ainge, Boston?s executive director of basketball operations, was on hand.

It?s not unheard of for teams to pair up during pre-draft workouts ? New York and New Jersey have been holding joint sessions since June 5.

?This is the first time we?ve done it, but actually it gave me a chance to talk to Danny about some other things,? King said with a smile.

The Sixers have the 12th, 21st and 30th picks in the first round of the June 28 draft. Boston holds the fifth pick.

As for Hawes, King said he was impressed by the 19-year-old.

?He?s very skilled for his age, for his size,? King said. ?He?s able to handle the ball, shoot, post up. He?s got a lot of potential. As we go through this process, we?ve got to start whittling it down and eliminate some of these guys at the 12th pick, and see if they?re the 21st pick or see if they?re the 30th pick.?

King said it?s unlikely the Sixers will use all four of their picks ? they also hold the 38th selection ? but added that he probably won?t make a move until he?s finished evaluating players. He could try to move up or package a pick or more in a trade. There?s even a chance he could use a later pick on a European with the intention of keeping him overseas for the near future.

Hawes, however, is a player who likely could contribute next season in some way. As a freshman for the Huskies he averaged 14.9 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.7 blocks while shooting 53.4 percent from the field.

If he remains in the draft, he?s likely to be a lottery pick. The most recent consensus of mock drafts compiled by NBA.com rates Hawes as the No. 11 pick.

Still, he won?t commit 100 percent to turning pro.

?It?s hard to put kind of a number on it,? he said. ?I think I?m feeling pretty good about how my workouts have gone, but I have to sit down with my family, people who are close to me, and try to make that decision.?

For many players, being a sure first-round pick would be enough, but Hawes insisted there were other factors.

?I think it still kind of eats at me ? the season we had and the legacy that I kind of left. (It) wasn?t what I wanted,? he said of his year at Washington, where the Huskies finished 19-13 and failed to land an NCAA tournament berth. ?If that?s the best way for me to develop ? and I still have to decide that ? then that would be a reason to return.?

NOTES: The Sixers won?t work out players today but plan to bring some in Friday, Saturday and Monday. Expected Friday are Ohio State freshman Daequan Cook and Australian guard Brad Newley. Saturday, USC?s Nick Young and Georgia Tech?s Javaris Crittenton are among the invited, and Florida State?s Al Thornton is supposed to be in Monday?s group.</div>

4 picks in the draft, 15 roster spots, I honestly didn't expect them to use all 4 picks either. I don't really think we have enough room on the roster for 4 rookies. We'll probably package the #30 and #38 picks to move up in the first round. I just hope we don't do something stupid and sell them away (even though I wouldn't be surprised if that happened)

I don't know. It's just that the way I read it..is that Billy has more up his sleeve than we think. Just that gut feeling.

Either that or I'm just reading too much into it..lol

Despite what a lot of people may think, Billy King is not a complete moron. He is going to do the right thing on draft day and move up into the top 6 or 7 in the draft where he can acquire a real difference maker. Like I have said in other posts, Miller could not be packaged during the season, so the sixers were waiting till the offseason to trade him with picks to move up in the draft. King is in a great position to build this team and improve it greatly for the future. And i think that is exactly what hes going to do.

I would be somewhat disappointed if we drafted Hawes with our first pick. He just doesn't seem like a guy who has the potential to be anything above mediocre in the league to me. I would much rather take a look at a big point guard like Javaris or even Jeff Green/Thaddeus Young before I targeted Hawes.

All the teams that have success in the NBA are led by a big man. We need a big man, someone who we can get the ball to in the post and count on him to give us points. Hawes has the potential to be that guy down the road. While I like the guys like Javaris and Young more than Hawes, you have to consider that Billy has to grab a post player that can develop an arsenal of post moves somewhere with our first two picks, whether it's Hawes, McRoberts, Splitter, Aaron Gray, or Jason Smith. Out of all of them, I'd prefer to have Hawes over the field.

Personally, I don't think Hawes will last until our pick, which is where the draft starts to get interesting. Do we reach for a guy like Jason Smith? Do we go with a point guard or swing, even though it's clearly not our biggest need? When it's all said and done, I believe that Billy will trade up to secure us either Jeff Green, Hawes, Julian Wright, Horford, or even Noah.

Theres a talented atheltic wing in EVERY draft like Thad Young. Not every draft has a C prospect that can some in right away and produce on offense.

I have to disagree. Besides Oden, Hawes has the most advanced post moves in the draft and has a range that Oden doesn't have. I think Hawes is a better bet at developing into a star than most of the wings/guards in this draft.
