<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> (June 15, 2007) -- The Toronto Raptors announced Friday they have acquired guard Carlos Delfino from the Detroit Pistons in exchange for a second-round draft pick in 2009 and 2011.Delfino, 6-foot-6, 230 pounds, was a first-round selection (25th overall) by the Pistons in 2003. The native of Argentina saw action in all 82 regular season games last season, posting career highs in points (5.2), rebounds (3.2) and minutes (16.8). He scored in double figures 13 times with a season-best 16 points in a season-high 30 minutes December 27 at New York. He had a season-high seven rebounds on seven occasions and a season-best seven assists at Atlanta on January 12. He appeared in all 16 of Detroit?s postseason contests, averaging 2.3 points, 1.3 rebounds and 8.4 minutes. ?Carlos is a talented basketball player that should thrive in our system,? said Raptors President and General Manager Bryan Colangelo. ?Like many international players that come to the league, he has much more professional experience than his NBA resume suggests.? Delfino has averaged 4.4 points, 2.4 rebounds and 14.2 minutes in 180 career NBA regular season games. Prior to joining the Pistons, he played four seasons (2000-04) in Italy. He spent 2000-02 with Reggio Calabria and 2002-04 as a member of Skipper Bologna. He averaged 10.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 25.6 minutes in 115 career games in Italy. Delfino was a member of the Gold Medal winning Argentina National Team at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece. He also played for the Argentina National Team along with Manu Ginobili (San Antonio), Andres Nocioni (Chicago), Fabricio Oberto (San Antonio) and Walter Hermann (Charlotte) at the 2006 FIBA World Championships in Japan</div> source: http://www.nba.com/raptors/news/release_061507.html excellent pick-up. Delfino is a solid player. I guess this means bye-bye for Joey G
WOW! I expect him to see mad minutes, he's a great player, plus he can throw down some nasty dunks. Invalid Video Link sorry the song is so bad, that guy who made chose a horrible song.
He's a solid finisher. Average defender--mostly guards SGs. He will probably be our back-up SF. He needs to increase his confidence and the raps are probably the only team where delfino would benefit in. He was lost while playing with the pistons--out of the rotation and his confidence level went down so much that he was considering calling it quits and going back to Europe. He's good friends with Jose and Garbajosa and he should get minutes here in toronto. Awesome move by BC--only two second rounders. Pistons played it smart aswell--they saved $3 million which will probably be used in the off-season (Grant hill anyone) Overall--solid pickup, but he does not fill our gap at the starting SF
Congratulations, you guys raped us in this trade. A bit of a brain explosion from Joe D IMO, should've at least asked for a first rounder or Jose Calderon in return. I think this either signifies the return of Alex Acker, or a SG (Rodney Stuckey or Nick Young) with the #15 pick in the draft.
This either means Peterson is gone or Colangelo has given up on Graham. I'm in love with Delfino's slashing game. Underrated passer as well.
I could see a possible trade of Joey to land a lottery pick in this year's draft and a S & T with Mo to get a vet.
I would love to trade Graham for a pick, and Mo Pete for a vet. I'm happy Brian Colangelo started off strong this year. Already he is showing why he is EOY. A quick trade to pick up a solid player who can light it up and is bigger then Dixon or Jones was. Great Job Colangelo.

If the Pistons were asking that, they wouldn't have gotten the trade through. Not a bad pickup, he can shoot decently, is an average defender, is athletic, and can finish around the rim, he can work well on the Raptors.

The only reason Delfino's production is low is because he didnt see enough playing time with us, I can easily see him putting up 10ppg+ for you guys, if given the chance to play and grow. He has alot of upside, he just wasnt going to go anywhere with us.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Delfino is definately not worth a first round pick at his production rate right now</div> That's the key part right there. The fact that he was a first round pick before doesn't really help him here because he's not producing enough for a team to give a first round pick for him. Also you never know what will happen, so first round picks are usually not given up unless you're getting a player that can definately impact your team, not possibly, maybe can. Also the fact that he wasn't going anywhere with Detroit comes into play. Toronto isn't the one in desperation, Detroit is the one trying to get some value for him since they realized he wasn't going to develop there. For example, Jarvis Hayes was s first round pick, 13th or whatever, and no team would give up a first round pick for him.

Considering we got a first round pick for Darko, who's production was worse off than Delfinos at this stage in time, I think it would be fair. If it was protected or somthing like that.
I hope you don't honestly believe that it would have been a fair trade if it was Delfino for Calderon. If you do, then you are severely overrating your own player. Delfino can be a solid guy coming off the bench but trading him for a very good point guard that could probably start for most teams is stretching it. Delfino has not proved anything in this league yet (I'm not saying that he can't but he hasn't).

Hmmm more international flavour. Seems like talk before about Delfino coming to Toronto actually came true. Maybe BG does read these boards..... lol. Hopefully Joey G can step up his game with competition coming or they trade him. Darrick Martin should retire and be on the bench with Sam or behind it. Mo Pete could be traded to the Lakers with the 19th pick.. maybe.
<div class="quote_poster">NTC Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Ok, well we'll see by the end of next season.</div> With Calderon it's not just the fact that Calderon has put up better numbers, but in general in the league, a good PG's value >> a swingman's value if they're not superstar type players.
I was just looking at Delfino's PER 40 numbers in comparison to Joey's: Delfino: 12.5 PPG | 7.8 RPG | 2.6 APG | 1.3 SPG | 1.8 TPG | .476 eFG% | .515 TS% | 12.8 PER Graham: 15.3 PPG | 7.5 RPG | 1.3 APG | 0.9 SPG | 1.5 TPG | .506 eFG% | .564 TS% | 12.9 PER Delfino's scoring seems below average, Joey is the better scorer of the two. They have the same usage rate [ J-15.4 | D-15.5], they have almost the same rebound rate [J-11.0 | D-11.5], Joey has a lower turnover rate [9.1 to 10.8], but he Delfino doubles his assists. In the end, they have just about identical PER ratings. Delfino played more than 90% of his minutes on Detroit at SG, and had an opponent PER of 14.4 there, which is good. He didn't play enough SF for anything to be made of those numbers, according to them, 1% of Detroit's total minutes there for the season, so like 39 minutes. Joey's opponent PER at SF was 17.9, not good, but Detroit is also a better defensive team with a better defensive system than the Raptors, and like I said, Delfino's numbers are from SG. The other thing is that Delfino is a better 3PT shooter, but with 33% shooting the past two years, it's nothing to rave about, Joey did shoot 33% his rookie season from outside on 2.2 attempts per 40 (Delfino was at 4), but he decided to go away from that this past season. So it will be interesting to see how this works out.
