It goes in and that's what matters. If we got the opportunity to land him and only give up Luke, Kwame and #19, I'd hope they do it in a heart beat. He automatically makes our team better than last year. He's very good on offense and is one of the best defensive players in the league. The Lakers would be stupid to pass up on a trade that lands him without giving up Odom.
<div class="quote_poster">Bacon Smeller Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">^^ Thats true but I dont want to give up Luke. I think he can do something as a Lakers</div>I love Luke and all, but if I can get a Shawn Marion for him, I'd do it any day. Luke is a nice role player that may give 12/5/5 on most nights, however, Marion is a superstar, plain and simple. He gives 20/10 consistently, throws in 2 steals and 2 blocks while he's at. He's also a very good defender that can guard almost any position on the court. The guy is one of the best all around players in the league and if you wouldn't give up Luke for him, you obviously aren't aware of how good Marion is.

The Lakers need a table-setter, playmaker and floor general more than anything. Kobe is NOT suited to this role - he is much more suited to the assassin role. Lakers might be better off with a Chauncey Billups type of player than a Marion.

if we can get marion for luke+filler and a pick, kupchak better jump on that deal. we get a consistent 20/10 guy who's also one of the better on ball defenders in the league. i'm not sure how the #'s work, but that makes it easier to give up odom for a JO package.
Personally, I think if we have a shot at Marion we take it. I realize Luke is a big part of our offense, but Marion brings a lot more to the table than Luke. And he improves our biggest weakness as well, that being defense. Luke may be a great faciltator and all, but if we can improve our defense and also get a stead 2nd option just for him, you have to do it.
Marion doesn't only give you a great defender along with Kobe, he gives you a 2nd option that you can also trade Odom for possibly a PG and other players. Maybe Jason Kidd??? I mean Kobe, Lamar, and Marion is nasty and if they can trade Lamar for a good PG, then the Lakers would be set. Also, try to go after Mo Williams or Steve Blake.
