<div class="quote_poster">Moo2K4 Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">It may be a better trio but that doesn't mean it will yield wins. Unfortunately, there's only one basketball for all three of those guys, and they all need the ball to be effective. It may be a better trio, but I don't think it'd work. You also have to realize how little they'd have outside of that. I don't care if it is in the East, but for those reasons, I just don't think it'd work. Plus, that trio still doesn't stack up against the likes of the Mavs, Suns, or Spurs.</div>

Trio should work because Curry demands double teams or he will score on every play. That will open up Kobe, Marbury,Q,Balkman (if he works on his shot this summer). Not to mention we have a very good young PG coming off the bench Mardy Collins which I personally think he would be a good role player. Jeffries can provide some D off the bench and hustle. We have Cato,James, and that rookie Center that has some potential to go vs the team that have Duncan or Shaq or even Dirk. I personally think that if Curry works on his D a little more and Kobe comes to NY we will be an automatic contender in the east. Even look what Lebron did with all those scrubs, the way he openned up the floor for other. This is Kobe we talking about here who can make the shot even over the entire team. I would also add that Curry is the best center on the east PPG wise and EFF.

The thing you need to realize is just how much you have to give up to get him. Crawford/Lee/Frye simply don't get the job done. There's still a lot of money you have to make up for there, which likely means trading away a ton of draft picks or throwing in a couple more players, likely Steve Francis being one of the pieces. That doesn't leave them with a whole lot. Their roster would look something like:

    Bryant
    Curry
    Marbury
    Balkman
    Collins
    Jeffries
    James
    Morris
    QRich

Outside of your big three and Q, where is offense going to come from? Beyond that, you have to figure in that the Lakers would have to free roster space just to accomodate that many incoming players. In general, I just don't see how a trade involving Kobe can work unless they get back another big salaried, maxed out superstar in return. The Lakers would have to accomodate for new guys and the team getting Kobe would be down to 11 or fewer players after the trade.

I agree but it's still worth it... it's one time chance of having the best player on our team. We can give up 2009,2010 first round picks to cover the deal. They were also saying that Bryant can come with Radmanovich or Brown to cover the the salary. Don't forget that Chicago would also have to gut their roster to make the same trade for Kobe. Sending Gordon,Wallace,Nocioni and the pick for him.... but I don't see the Lakers agreeing to this trade just because they want to build the franchise around the young players. Nocioni is like 28 Ben is turning 32 or 33 so there a slim chance anything will go down including Ben and Nocioni and excluding Deng from the trade. If the Bulls are going part with Deng than I have no question it would be a good trade for both teams. But like many of you stated that Bulls won't give up Deng in any trade for a superstar because of youth and the way he is improving with each year. So, basically there will be 2 choices either to keep Kobe and let him run his mouth on LA LA land or trade him to the knicks in my opinion. Don't get me wrong I would love to see kOBE in Chicago but I don't see that happening, he would also be overshadowed by MJ here. On the other hand in NY he can become a hero that everyone needs to save our franchise! Don't foget that fact that Kobe is a 50 pts scorrer which means Knicks would have to put up another 40-50 to win. Curry can score 20, Marbs 15, bench atleast 10.

If the Lakers want talent back for Kobe, why wouldn't we trade him to a Western Conference team?

All the NBA talent is in the West, if we want the best deal for him, we need to consider dealing him to Western Conference team. Who cares if the Lakers would have to face him 4 times a year, or potentially in the playoffs?

If the organization is committed to building around Bynum, it's going to take at least 3 to 4 years before he becomes a dominant post player. In 3 to 4 years, Kobe will be on the downside of his prime.

Even if the Lakers traded him East, there's no guarantee that team wouldn't turnaround and trade him right back to a team out West.

The bottomline, if the organization surrenders and decides to deal Kobe, then we need the best deal available regardless of which Conference he would end up in.

I doubt the Lakers want Crawford, but if they do, they can easily have him by just throwing in the very expendable Steve Francis, who actually expires in two years; that's the same time Bynum expires, so they can shed cap to re-sign him. A trade like Frye/Lee/Francis/Crawford for Kobe/Radmanovic/Vujacic works perfectly.

Outside of Q-Rich? We will have Marbury, Kobe, Curry who can all score 20 points and Q-Rich, as you just said, can also generate offense as well. If Nate is isn't in the deal, he can put up points also. Another thing you have to consider is the Knicks, if they make this trade, will be much better defensively. Kobe is a solid defender, Marbury played good defense last year, Jeffries is a good defender, Balkman and Collins are good defenders, James gives a good 10 minutes or so of solid defense, Cato is a good defender, and Q-Rich plays solid defense when he isn't having back trouble. Even if we don't put up as many points (though I think we can), we will be much better defensively. And like my aforementioned trade scenario shows, there will only be one less available roster space for the Lakers, which is far from being a real concern at all.

^^ It would be great if the Knicks also took Radman and Sasha if this trade went down.

The Knicks give up a lot of rebounding with this trade and I'm sure the Lakers would receive draft picks along with those names mentioned above.

I'm not sure how the trio of Marbury, Kobe, & Curry stacks up against the rest of the East. It's really contingent on how fast these three can function together. Assuming it works out, this trio is better than what Kobe had in LA.

Marbury and Odom are relatively equal and Curry is a lot better than the Bynum/Kwame duo.

Isiah is also never done with his wheeling and dealing so I wouldn't rule out another trade taking place to continue building the Knicks.

Kobe in New York becomes a huge draw for free agents.

If KG opts out, he'll have the full court press from Marbury and Kobe trying to bring him to New York.

^ Are you saying Marbury/Kobe/Curry couldn't make it to the finals in the weak east? Hell, at least that team would most likely make a playoff run, something Kobe hasn't done in 4 years.

What if this was a hoax set up by Jerry Buss and Kobe to give Lakers 2x more publicity than the NBA Finals. Just a random thought.

Chicago makes the most sense for the Lakers. Not only do they get young pieces to help them rebuild, they ship Kobe to the Western Conference. I know if I were Los Angeles I wouldn't want to play against a motivated Kobe seeking revenge any more than I was forced too. Meeting up with him in the playoffs would be scary too (think Vince Carter meeting up with Toronto this year except with a much better player who is capable of scoring 81 points in a game.)

Maybe Evans, Sasha, or depending on who they would acquire if Kobe was traded, could be Marion, Gordon, Deng, Crawford, Balkman, Francis.

What Has Gotten Into You Guys?

Why is everybody want to trade Kobe? Am I the only sane person here who wants to keep the man who defines basketball? There isn't a player in the league that wants a champion half as much as Kobe does, and that is why he is disappointed in management. I say SCREW trying to fight off Kobe and just get the JO and Artest deals done. Refuse to trade Kobe, and Kobe loves the game too much to refuse to sit out the season. With JO and Artest, however, we HAVE to win a championship if we want to keep Kobe. I'm surprised Phil isn't up managements @$$3$. If I were Phil AND Odom, I would go up to Mitch and say "Make Kobe happy or we out."

Right now some of the potential trades with the Bulls would be GREAT for the Lakers. This is still a 5-man game. Ask San Antonio and Detroit. You don't want to overrate one player - - - he is after all just one player.

Common basketball sense says forget building around 1 superstar and instead find character guys who play hard, who know how to defend and make plays and are team-first. This is the recipe that Detroit and SA used to win. If you're going to base a team around 1 superstar, he better be unbelievable not only as a scorer, but also as a teammate, playmaker and leader. i.e. Tim Duncan, Steve Nash, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, MJ, Jason Kidd... but not Kobe, he doesn't make plays for others and doesn't inspire greatness in others the way those guys did
