This won't be the most popular thing to do -- it will be another big disappointment -- but the best thing the Orlando Magic could do with their money this summer is to sit on it.

Yes, there will be some salary-cap room for a high-dollar free agent, but not without a sign-and-trade deal that likely will cost them just-budding Darko Milicic.

The Magic plan to pursue 27-year-old forward Rashard Lewis of Seattle, but so will 20 other teams looking to improve in a very shallow free-agent class, all willing to take drastic steps to make it happen. Lewis would help the Magic significantly next season.

Yet Gilbert Arenas could help them even more -- if they can be patient.</div>

I don't think we actually need Gilbert. It would be great to get him but I don't think we could.

IF we could get him we would be amazing. Agent Zero can flat out score and defenses cant stop him. I could only picture what a team would look like with him and howard on it. I highly doubt we can get him, i dont think he will be leaving DC. I think he just wants to sign a new contract so if anything happens like a Hill or Penny situation he will still get paid. I would say if we had him we would instantly be a top 3 team in the east.

I could definitely wait another season if it means getting Arenas. But it's not like it's guaranteed that he would come to Orlando, what if we pass on Rashard this off-season and it turns out that Arenas doesn't come to Orlando next off-season. Getting Arenas would most definitely take us to the next level though, and he's still young too (a month older than Jameer).

I'm not really sure Otis can afford to wait another year after he's been talking about how this is going to be a big summer for the magic and after the whole coaching situation. Besides there is no guarantee that if we do wait we will get him I say just sign Rashard and lets be done with it.

The Magic would really be taking a huge gamble if they waited for Arenas next year, because there would really be no plan B for them at that point. Meanwhile, if they targeted guys like Vince Carter and Rashard Lewis this off season at least they would be able to come away with something to better there team.

Just use the money now. After next season Dwight's contract will jump up and we will have to decide what to do with Jameer Nelson, so who knows if we even will have any cap room. I'd rather get a player this year and have a couple of expiring contracts that we could dangle in a trade around the deadline.

I'd rather try and get a guard that isn't undersized and actually tries to get Dwight the ball, thanks.

Arenas isn't undersized unless you're playing him at SG, he's 6'3, and listed as 6'4, though that's not really true lol.

Extremely wishful thinking by this writer. If Arenas doesn't stay in Washington, which I think he will, Orlando really isn't the place he'd go. He's a Cali guy, he'd likely be interested in going somewhere there. I think Orlando is better off just doing what they were doing before.

In addition to that, the Wizards won't let themselves lose Arenas for nothing, if he's leaving, there's going to be some sort of trade involved.

If they wait till next offseason they won't really have a choice.

I thought they couldn't wait until next season because Dwight's new contract will be taking its toll on our cap situation?

Well, Arenas isn't a point guard, that's for sure, and pairing him with any other point guard that the Magic have right now is pretty disastrous since they all pretty much suck (although I hope I'm wrong with Nelson).
