<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">If KG's not going to Chicago, where could he go? From what I'm hearing -- and at this point it's just a hot rumor -- the Wolves and Boston Celtics talking about a Garnett deal. In this scenario, Boston would send Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, Sebastian Telfair, Theo Ratliff, and change to Minnesota along with the No. 5 pick in the upcoming draft. In exchange, the Celtics would get Garnett. When he asked Ainge about it, he got the standard "we don't talk about trades" answer, but said no deals are close to happening</div> http://www.celticsblog.com/index.php?optio...d=843&Itemid=58

I'd hate to see Jefferson go, but the team has been rebuilding for 20 years. Getting KG would make us a contender (at least in the east) for, at least, the next 3 years.

We already have a young double-double in Jefferson that has more good years waiting for him. To trade all our future assets for an aging PF doesn't seem right. Don't get me wrong I'd love to see KG in a Cs uniform. But it's gotta be at a cheaper price than this. Take out Jefferson and either the pick or Green. Or you could also keep Green and the pick and send Wally back to the Wolves.
Instant gratification??? I think not....... KG in green would be a dream.........but not at the expense of the future...i spent so long following Boston that I can happily see another struggle season or two whiles the young keep developing into sumfin special. Dont trade away the future at the expense of a lil fun now........we will wake up in a few years, roll over and regret what we done. Bring KG if it dont cost AL, or too much else.....I kinda think we may get sumfin out the 5 pick though........a good supporting big to Al. Yi I reckon would be a great 6th man straigh away and a good starter down the track....go that way I say.........
I was about to say how does this make the celts a contender but then I remember how weak the east conference is. I personally don't see this happening as if I were GM I would be looking to keep what we got for the future. Especially Jefferson.
Your best player in PP. He ain't gettin any younger. KG is 31, not close to over the hill yet, he's got at least 3 more years to fire on all cylinders. If the Celtics are serious about winning, this is their best chance. If you don't wanna give up all the future for KG, trade PP, cause he's wasting away here.

Back to the start and we live through years if **** again...We need to stop thinkin Championship tomorrow and think of success for years, and a chip will follow.

I think this trade is ideal for both teams. Minnesota is looking to rebuild and this trade officially signifies the end of the Garnett era. Jefferson, Green, Telfair, and the fifth pick is more than enough talent than Minnesota will ever get (more than Chicago, IMO) for Garnett. Boston was always young and talented, but they won't get any tangible results until their young players start to develop and that is going to take awhile. Pierce and Garnett will give them a legitimate chance to compete. It also must be said that Boston still salvaged some talent from the deal too. If the deal were to occur, they would still West, Rondo, Gomes, Allen, Powe, and Perkins. Wally, who is already used to Garnett in Minnesota, and Pierce will also be healthy, so I think the Celtics horrible record last season is a little overrated. This will be a great move for both teams. I still hope it doesn't happen for obvious reasons.
Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett surrounded by scrubs will not bring a championship to Boston. The farthest that tandem would ever get is the ECF. Probably not even that far, but this is the East after all so I'll give them some leverage. That number 5 overall pick is the key in this trade. If Boston trades it they are giving up their future for a 3 year run with Pierce and Garnett and that won't win you a title. If Boston keeps it they are getting a steal. One way or the other someone is going to get ripped off.
Paul Pierce and Antione Walker got to the ECF with a worst surrounding cast around them. If KG would come to the East he would be the premier front court player in the entire conference. Paul Pierce in my mind may be the best wing in the conference outside of LeBron. Why wouldn't the Celtics jump at the chance of having the best inside outside combination in the game when the Eastern Conference is at its absolute worst? The only down side is that KG has an opt out clause in his contract following this season. Something tells me though at his age and the fact that he has missed the playoffs 3 straight seasons he will not command the type of money that he is earning now -- thereby making him less inclined to opt out. Especially if the Celtics are able to advance in the playoffs. There has been enough apathy in the Celtics camp. If that is the proposed deal I would make that deal in a heartbeat if I were the Celtics.
Sorry to burst you guys bubble but KG ain't coming no more. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Forget Boston, is the word from the star center. Garnett’s agent, Andy Miller, told ESPN.com’s Chris Sheridan that Garnett made it known to the Wolves and Celtics late Wednesday that he had no interest in playing for Boston. The implication was clear: If Minnesota dealt him to Boston, Garnett would opt out of his contract next summer. “The Boston trade isn’t happening,” Miller told Sheridan on Thursday. “If a trade were to happen, that’s not a destination that we’re interested in pursuing.” Asked where Garnett would prefer to be dealt, Miller replied: “Too early. Ask me in two days.” Garnett has “a good handle on the possibility of being traded,” Miller said. “Kevin is an extremely loyal person, and loyalty is not a common factor among pro athletes, but in this situation he understands he has to put his long-term considerations ahead of the Minnesota Timberwolves’ long-term considerations.” Kevin McHale, the Timberwolves’ vice president of basketball operations, has been pressed of late on Minnesota-Boston discussions over Garnett following Danny Ainge’s admission to The Boston Herald that he has talked to McHale about Garnett. “Who knows what’s going to happen?” McHale told reporters Wednesday after the Wolves worked out college stars Jeff Green and Al Horford in preparation for the draft. “But we’re not out there actively shopping Kevin Garnett around the NBA. I can tell you that much.” Because Garnett can opt out of his contract after next season, the Timberwolves run the risk of losing him without compensation if they don’t trade him before then and he tires of not playing on a competitive team. That has ramped up speculation that he could be on the move, and the possible destinations are popping up all over the place as they always do this time of year. </div> Link

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Some in the Celtics [team stats] organization believe there is more smoke than substance behind agent Andy Miller’s assertion that Kevin Garnett will opt out of his contract after next season if Minnesota trades him to the Celtics. “I’m willing to bet he hasn’t even talked to (Garnett) and that he’s just trying to posture something so it doesn’t happen,” a Celtics source said yesterday. “In fact, I’m pretty sure of it. So I don’t put much stock in what he said.” Director of basketball operations Danny Ainge and coach Doc Rivers declined comment following yesterday’s workout of Florida center Al Horford and four other big men. Garnett will earn an NBA-high $22 million next season. If dealt, he would collect another $3 million via a 15 percent trade kicker. “Do you really think he is going to pass up the $23 million he would make the next year (in 2008-09) to go somewhere else?” the official said. “He would have to drop back to the league maximum wherever he went. I don’t think he’s going to forfeit $10 million that easily.” Miller has spoken highly of Ainge’s treatment of another of his clients - C’s point guard Sebastian Telfair [stats]. However, there is a lingering suspicion within the organization that Miller’s tough stance on Garnett was influenced by co-owner Wyc Grousbeck’s decision to remove Telfair’s nameplate from his locker after the guard was arrested for gun possession in April. Celtics officials have known for quite some time that Garnett’s preferred destination is Phoenix, though the Suns are reportedly unwilling to part with the player who would make the deal work - Amare Stoudemire. Other teams, including Dallas, are expected to join what is becoming an auction for Garnett, but the Celtics’ offer - Al Jefferson [stats] and this year’s No. 5 draft pick, plus add-ons - still is considered the best. That would give the Timberwolves two of the top seven picks in Thursday’s draft. </div> Source: Boston Herald Anyone else sick and tired of sports agents? These pricks have far too, much influence on the league. Stern needs to take a tougher stance on situations like this. Agents should not be able to leverage teams .
