<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Anderson Varejao contract situation is poised to be very interesting. He's a restricted free agent, meaning the Cavs can match any offer he receives. However, it is difficult to determine his value, and therefore it could be a drawn-out process. First, he's not a starter and probably isn't going to be. Drew Gooden is more talented overall, and he'll be making $6.4 million next season. It's hard to fathom the Cavs will want to give Varejao, who made $945,000 this season, as much as or more than Gooden. According to team sources, General Manager Danny Ferry has permission from ownership to exceed the luxury-tax threshold for the first time in team history. Ferry has made it clear behind the scenes, however, that he does not want to hamstring himself with unmovable contracts. In other words, Varejao is not untouchable, and the winds suggest the Cavs would let him walk rather than match a deal they consider unreasonable. Second, there are almost no comparable players in the league. It is hard to set a market. He's an energy player with limited offensive skills, traits not usually associated with big-money players. Then again, talented big men tend to get big money. Third, the teams with open salary-cap space -- Milwaukee, Charlotte, Orlando, Atlanta and Memphis -- aren't obvious fits for Varejao. That means if he wants a deal worth more than the midlevel exception ($5.5 million), it might happen only in a sign-and-trade. The Cavs don't have to cooperate, so it might be a standoff. Nonetheless, several teams figure to be interested in bidding on Varejao. According to league sources, one of them is expected to be the Houston Rockets, who are looking to get more athletic and are overhauling their power forward spot. </div> http://www.ohio.com/mld/ohio/17387532.htm I wouldnt mind Varejo in Houston, but I would perfer it if we could get him for under half the MLE. Chances are, the Cavs will too. He is a good energy player doest really have a consistent jumpshot, but he can hit that 10 footer sometimes. With him aboard, we are looking at a maximum hustle/energy 4 spot, with minimum offense.
<div class="quote_poster">tinyballer Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Definetly. He is a guy with unbelivable passion. Joakim Noah like.</div> I dislike both of them :/
Well Varejao will likely fetch close to if not all of the MLE. We'd also have to promise him a starting position to pry him away from Cleveland. A team with a void at power forward like us should be looking at him but I doubt we'll land him.

besides the stupid one handed runner that he occasionally shoots, I wouldn't mind Varejo....he'll bring rebounding, defense, and toughness to this soft bunch of guys.

I think he would fit well on the Rockets. He is good energy and can play at a high level without offence.

That ill-advised backwards flip with 11 seconds left in Game 3 basically did the Cavs in.
Yeah but every team needs a guy with that kind of passion. We are lacking it even though i thought spanoulis would provide it.

Rumors of us trading him away for Dallas's second round pick.

The guy is another Chuck Hayes minus the silly afro. Could he atleast have a jumpshot before you go crazy over him

He'd get torn up by Johnson. Right now it doesn't appear that we can get a better free agent or a much better pf in free agent than in the draft. We should give a hard look at propects like Fesenko, Sean Williams, Mcguire to fill our pf need.

Cant do anything about his decision tho.

And to be honest I think chuck is better defensively. Well I just compared the two and their stats are almost identical except Chuck played less minutes. Again not woth the MLE.
than who with the MLE???....this team needs a 4...I love Chuck Hayes, be he's not good enough to be a starter for a "serious" contender, especially in a conference that has Duncan at PF...if available the rockets should definitely make this happen...all kinds of untapped potential here....

And remember we beat the Spurs with Chuck as a starter. I think we can get a better player for the $.
