This is just a what if and will never happen....but from the Lakers point of view...I'm curious of what you'd think of this. I know there are some fans that are "Kobe First" and not "Lakers first". This is for the latter. If you could just give up Kobe (and Vlad) and get KG. Can you imagine KG with Kareem as a tutor? That would mean that he had both McHale and Kareem to learn from. I wouldn't mind seeing KG and Kobe together because that would make them instant WCF (depending on who they'd have to give up)......but KG and Kareem's teachings......oooohhhh. KG, Bynum, and Odom. Walton is still there too. Legitimate triple towers. How could they stop the triangle when you can go over them? So you don't think Odom, KG, and Bynum would intimidate anyone? Hell, you could start Brown with Bynum off the bench to give the starters a rest. No Tony Parker with a ridiculous amount of points in the paint. Oh yeah......KG and Kareem.....ooohhhh. If you're Kobe first, you'd hate this idea. But if you're Lakers first, how can you not love it? I don't believe that Garnett will be clapping for the ball as soon as you reach mid-court and I think they would really play more as a team with a superstar yes, but a superstar who is about the team. Not to say they individually will be able to stop you (see championship Pistons), but to see guys coming to play together would make a nice pic. Remember, this is just a question that I'm curious to know your opinion about.
You need an inside and outside game to win championship. It doesn't matter if you have a good frontcourt lineup, you still need a consistently liable perimeter scorer. LO is not your ideal perimeter player here. If you can pick between building around a big or a small, your instinct is of course picking big. We all love big, the big O. And I don't know if KG has anything to learn from Kareem.

There's a difference between recordings of his past games and hearing from the man himself (who has the rings). McHale and Kareem had different games and KG can only get better with Kareem. I think Garnett would eat it up.

I don't know how you guys feel about Smush, but if you could get Blake or someone who can take care of the ball and HIT the open shot consistently, it would work. Oh well, just curious.
I'd deal Kobe for KG straight up, I've always had this stance, because the road to an NBA title is a lot easier through a big man than guard. Kobe is fantastic and the best single talent player in the NBA, but there's little margin for error trying to build a championship contender around him. You need players who can do things on the court without the basketball, and those role players are tough to find. Most draft picks are players who are used to being the #1 or #2 option on a team. It takes time for them to adjust at learning a specific role. The type of players you need to surround Kobe with are guys who can play tough on both ends, with KG you can have more one-dimensional players, because of his impact on the game inside the paint. For example, if a guard playing on the perimeter makes a mistake, KG is the second line of defense to contest the shot, or buy time for the guard to recover. If Kobe makes a mistake on the perimeter, you better have a shotblocker on the inside who understands proper defensive rotation. The one time the TWolves actually surround KG with some decent talent (Sprewell & Cassell) they almost beat the Dream Team Laker Squad.
But woldn't you want to see Kobe and KG on the same team. I think that the Lakers have a good chance of winning a championship. Farmar and Sasha could show of their Point skills.

A front line of Odom/KG/Bynum would be amazing.
Sorry I guess I didn't read that little part of information. So after what KG said today do you think that he really wants to go to the Lakers.
Wow, its amazing how values can change in the course of a year. At the start of the season, like half the Laker fans wouldn't trade Odom for KG straight up, now Kobe for KG straight up seems to be fair.
Of course I'd like for KG to be traded for Kobe, and fillers if needed. Like shape and others have said, things are a lot easier with a big guy than with a small one.
I think the Lakers would regress with this trade. Minny is a terrible team, at least the Lakers make the playoffs. Kobe is also just entering his prime while Garnett is finishing his. No thank you.
^^ No I think that KG still has a little bit more of time in his Prime maybe like 3 more years. Kobe and KG both in their prime would win a championship.
