Officials said they got the call around 5 p.m. Thursday and both her feet were detached at the ankle.

According to MetroSafe dispatch supervisors, the girl was riding the Superman Tower of Power, which is 177 feet tall and drops riders at 54 miles per hour. According to Kentucky Kingdom, the girl was injured when the ride malfunctioned.</div>

Wow, both feet cut off? Makes me not want to ride any rollercoasters for a year.

I don't get this whole situation. First of all, the ride malfunctioned, I get that, but if the whole ride "just came and hit the ground" then why wasn't anyone else's legs "cut offf"? He also said that the "girl didn't have no legs" and that there was no blood but if your legs are detached (I'm assuming her flesh was detached, which is really nasty), there is bound to be blood. How can flesh detach without blood?

This story doesn't make sense. It's either that or they picked the worst witness to interview OR I just don't get it.

^^ I totally agree, I'm quite confused by the conflicting information Karma, but no matter the result its pretty nasty. (Best case scenario would be no blood is true, detached at ankles somehow means severely dislocated ankles, although "cut off" tends to mean totally removed)

    Man this is nasty.

crap....i was planning on going to the Six Flags in New Jersey sometime soon. Forget that. But what was she doing wrong that her feet got chopped off?

That's nasty and to think I was ready to go with no bad thoughts after being away from SF Gurnee for the last 8 years. This reminds of something though. A tall friend of mine always had the fear that his dangling feet would get caught on something during a hanging or flying coaster and be ripped off.

It was like a car accident, if one passenger gets thrown from the vehicle, does that mean all them will? All them hit at different times and different ways.....

This story is pretty creepy, sorta reminds me of Final Destination [IMG]

It doesn't seem confusing to me. One of the cables snapped, so the ride fell to the ground.... but that same cable is the one that flew at her feet and sliced them off. Not the fall.

    Edit: Here's a better article: http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/06/21/six.flags...dent/index.html

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">(CNN) -- A girl's feet were cut off Thursday when a free-fall thrill ride malfunctioned at the Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom Amusement Park in Louisville, Kentucky, police said.

A cord wrapped around the 16-year-old's feet and severed them at her ankles while she was on the "Superman Tower of Power," a police dispatcher said. The girl was taken to a local hospital.</div>

I went to Wonderland in Canada, still love the coasters.

^ I've been stuck on Dragonfly before, while we were going up. It was kinda scary because we were almost at the top of the ascension and we were all wondering if the ride would randomly fall backwards (like on the Bat).

You know what I always wonder...during the blackout in 2003, did the roller coasters at the amusement parks of the affected cities stop as well? If so, did the rides get stuck wherever they were or was there some sort of backup power source?

Speaking of Wonderland, I can't stand Jet Scream.

Yes, there are some rides that I can't stand. But everytime I go, I have to go drop zone for sure.
