"Chauncey's first intention is to come back to Detroit, and we'll continute to explore that as an option, but if we're unable to make a deal with the Pistons my obligation is to look at other possibilities that will provide long-term security for Chauncey and his family," agent Andy Miller told ESPN.com.

Billups was due to make $6,819,000 next season in the final year of his contract, which had an early termination option.</div>

I never really liked chauncy in detroit. They gave him stupid nick names and made him out to be a fricken superstar. He is a top pg in the league but i hope he goes to play with a superstar, because he is the type of guy that can put a semi contending team over the top. I would love to see him back with KG in minny

If he doesnt return to Detroit, he'll probably go to Denver.
Billups has been used to winning for a while, so i doubt he'll wanna sign with a sorry eastern conference team. I'd predict him goin to a western conference team. Unless the Cavs can snag him.

There is no way that he'd be able to go to Denver with their cap issues. Plus when he was in Denver he was traded as a throw in player to the Magic--probably soured him from wanting to return to his hometown team as well.

Chauncey isn't going anywhere. There are many teams that could use his services but at the end of the day Joe D. realizes that he is the cornerstone of the franchise and there aren't too many viable replacements out there in the event that he leaves...w/ the exception of little used Ron Murray.

I would say there's an 80% chance he will resign

Good business move by Billups. I give him a hand for this. See, he was gunna make like 6.5 mill, now he opts out, knowing the Pistons need a PG and there isn't one to help them as much as Billups. SO now a team like the Magic or some team with cap space offers him like 8-10 mill, the Pistons see this, they need him, match the offer and he gets 2-4 mill more. Good Job Chauncy, I'm not being sarcastic, he is a smart man for this.

We wont match it if Joe D doesnt think he's worth it, and if he wasnt willing to give the face of the Pistons franchise (Ben Wallace) a max contract, there is no way he'll give one to Chauncey. At his age, he isnt worth it anyway, probably has another good 3-4 years left in him.

So how do you guys think this will effect the Pistons? I see them as a lower seeded Eastern conference team unless they get someone else this off season to match Billups' play. I think they lost the biggest part of their team last year and an even bigger part this year. The Pistons are slowly going downhill and Joe Dumars needs to do something quickly before this team becomes a sub 500 team.

It's going to happen eventually anyway, you cant stay on top forever. There isnt much Joe can do if Billups wants to sign elsewhere, we can only offer so much, and he wont over spend for him either.
